Why Choose the Civil Air Patrol?

My name is Alex Pantaleo and I have been in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) since March of 2011. My experience in CAP has been nothing but positive and I hope that I can share some of the many benefits of the Civil Air Patrol! When I joined CAP I was looking for an organization that was different than other youth organizations and one that would benefit me for the future. The Civil Air Patrol was 100% the right choice for me. I learned how to shine my shines and tie a tie, I learned military customs and courtesies, and how to be an ethical leader. One of my favorite parts of CAP is the opportunities it gives you that other organizations don’t. When I was 15 I was in charge of over 20 other cadets at our annual summer training, I learned how to care for my subordinates, how to be compassionate yet stern, and so much more. I was also able to fly a plane before I drove a car! I have been to different states, and even Puerto Rico through CAP! My fondest memory from CAP was laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, a humble experience to say the least. I have made friends that will last a lifetime and a resume that is second to none for my age. There is so much more that CAP has taught me, including basic first aid and CPR, how to make a hospital corner on my bed, how to interact with people, how to be a good public speaker, and so much more.
