Pets in our rescue have a separate policy as described in their description. Info for courtesy posts will be listed with the courtesy post. Who and What is "FUR?"

FUR Animal Rescue is a state licensed and 501c3 non profit animal rescue dedicated to finding homes or rescue for animals at the North Platte Animal Shelter through evaluating the dogs and cats, creating and providing the pets with information tags for their shelter kennel, taking pictures and videos for online networking and helping to link up potential adopters with pets in need. Our primary goal is to save the pets in our local shelter. We are NOT the shelter. We are volunteers for the shelter. We give names to the nameless, tags to the unknown and hope for the hopeless. We provide rescue, vet care, foster homes and shelter for certain pets in need at the shelter; such as those who are injured, ill, or those who are not acclimating well in the shelter environment, or those whose time is up. Our entire purpose is to give a second chance to the pets in our local shelter, whom otherwise may not have one. All animals pulled into FUR Rescue are fully vetted by our veterinarians and assessed in a foster home (dogs) or at our FURcility (cats) to get to know their personality and likes/dislikes. Adoptions require (simple) applications and a short process to help provide a forever fit and reassurance of your commitment to the pets that we rescue. What we do is called 'shelter rescue.' Our city hosts a city run facility, basically animal control with housing. It is not a humane society or an adoption agency. The staff is small and unable to focus on adoptions - which is our organizations priority, as VOLUNTEERS. Our primary goal is to save lives at our local shelter. We focus on the lives there, first and foremost. This means we cannot take owner surrenders or stray animals into our rescue, as it is a full time commitment already to saving those in our local shelter. Keeping this city shelter no kill, is a full time responsibility. FUR Animal Rescue also rescues and provides vet care, foster homes and rehoming for animals in need within the community, when/if we are able. We work with very limited foster homes, as we are just two people with full time jobs and simply can not take on more than we can handle. FUR Animal Rescue relies completely on fundraising, Cans For Critters (www.facebook.com/NPCansforCritters) and personal/community donations to help animals. If you would like to make a donation, please visit our donation link at:
paypal.me/FurtheLoveofPAWS
venmo

We also co-run the North Platte Pet Food Pantry (www.facebook.com/NorthPlattePetFoodPantry) and solely run Lost Paws (www.facebook.com/LostPawsNorthPlatte)

Our director also runs Lost Paws, a facebook networking page to help reunite owners with lost and found pets - thus keeping them out of the city shelter. We have a program called Snip it in the Bud to assist with the spay and neuter of feral and stray cats. If you need assistance for this, please message us. We are Incorporated, licensed by the Dept. of Ag/State of NE. (NE 3060513) and a 501c3 Non Profit Rescue. www.FurtheLoveofPAWSRescue.com

Meet Charlie, available for adoption through FUR Animal Rescue ❤️

Charlie has been with us since September 3, and I honestly don't understand how this incredible cat is still here.

He is seriously one of the sweetest, most amazing cats. He loves people, LOVES kids, and more than anything, this poor guy desperately wants a cat friend. 🥹🐱

Charlie is lonely here. He's bored.
And it's becoming more and more obvious that rescue life just isn't enough for him.

Charlie doesn't want to spend his days hanging out at the FURcility waiting for someone to come visit him. He wants a busy house. He wants kids to play with. He wants another cat to chase around and cuddle with. He wants to be right in the middle of a family where something is always happening.

He wants HOME.

Charlie originally came to us after being found as an intact male stray on West 4th Street. No one ever came to claim him, which still blows my mind because this cat is an absolute GEM.
After spending time at the city shelter without being adopted, we pulled him into rescue, got him completely vetted, and brought him to the FURcility.

From day one, Charlie has been an angel. 😇

He immediately wanted to meet the other cats and make friends. He is social, playful, affectionate, easygoing, and just genuinely loves being around people and other animals.
Unfortunately, he hasn't found the cat friendship he's looking for here, and you can tell he is craving that companionship.

Charlie would absolutely thrive in a home with another friendly cat. We also think a busy family with kids would be PERFECT for him. He's the kind of cat who wants to be included in everything. He wants someone to play with him, talk to him, snuggle him, and make him part of their everyday life.

He would even be a wonderful cat for a first time cat owner because he is just so easy to love and easy to care for.

We're doing everything we can to keep Charlie happy, but we can't give him the one thing he really wants - A family of his own.
Please help us get Charlie out of rescue and into the home of his dreams. ❤️

Meet Skip, available for Adoption through FUR Animal Rescue 🧡

We’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure Skip out. We’ve given him time, space and patience, always wondering if eventually he would decide that people aren’t so bad and maybe someday he would want to be somebody’s pet. But I think we’ve finally realized that we’ve been waiting for Skip to become something he simply doesn’t want to be, and honestly, that realization has changed the way we look at him.

Skip doesn’t like human hands. He doesn’t want to be picked up or petted, and he doesn’t seek out affection from us. He has absolutely no desire to be somebody’s little love bug, lol. But what we have learned is that Skip LOVES being safe. When we leave and everything gets quiet, we get to see this completely different side of him. We watch him on the cameras sprawled out in his bed, completely relaxed, stretching out, rolling around and bathing himself for what seems like hours. He looks so peaceful and comfortable, and there is something really emotional about watching a cat who once had to survive outside realize that he doesn’t have to do that anymore.

He loves being indoors. He loves his soft beds. He loves being warm and knowing there is always food waiting for him. He loves the security of his little routine, and he really, really loves other cats. He just doesn’t need human affection to be happy, and we’ve decided that he shouldn’t have to learn to accept it in order to deserve a home.

So instead of looking for someone who wants to “fix” Skip or turn him into a social, affectionate house cat, we are looking for a very special kind of person. Someone who already has another cat for him to have as a friend and who is willing to bring Skip home, give him time to settle in, give him some ridiculously comfortable beds, keep his belly full and then simply let Skip be Skip.

We don’t want someone who is going to push him to be social or continually try to make him accept affection. We want someone who can love him enough to expect absolutely nothing from him. Someone who can find happiness just knowing that the little cat sleeping peacefully across the room feels safe because of them. Maybe someday Skip will surprise us and decide to sit a little closer. Maybe years from now he’ll decide a human hand isn’t so scary after all. Or maybe he never will, and whoever adopts him needs to truly be okay with that.

Because when you really think about it, Skip isn’t asking for very much. He isn’t asking someone to hold him or cuddle him or make him the center of their world. He just wants to be warm, fed, safe and surrounded by a cat friend he can love in the way that makes sense to him.

Skip has already spent enough of his life surviving. We don’t need him to become a different cat now. We just want someone willing to give him a soft place to land, close the door on the scary part of his life for good, and let him spend the rest of it knowing that he is finally safe, FURever. 🧡

EXTRAS:
🤸🏼‍♀️ Will hide
🐱 Good with other cats
🐶 Unknown
🚽 Litter trained
🥄 Easts Purina ONE Salmon

⚠️ Skip is FIV positive. FIV positive means a cat has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, which can weaken the immune system over time. It is none issue these days. FIV+ cats live long, normal, healthy lives. FIV is spread primarily through deep bite wounds, not casual contact like sharing bowls, litter boxes, cuddling, or grooming. Peaceful FIV+ and FIV negative cats can live together successfully. FIV cannot be transmitted to people or dogs.

REQUIREMENTS:
🏠 Stable living environment (home ownership or lengthy rental history with landlord approval)
