Supportive Male Role Models Matter

Positive male role models can have a lasting impact on a young person’s emotional well-being, confidence, and sense of connection.

Men’s Mental Health Month reminds us that mentorship isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about showing up, listening, and building trust over time.

💬 Who was a positive male role model in your life?

🧠💙 Mindful Mentoring Course – Starting June 9

Community Connections Mentoring is excited to offer a special training opportunity for current and future mentors focused on supporting youth mental health through mentoring relationships.

Join us for a 12-session Mindful Mentoring Course led by Dr. Werntz — licensed mental health counselor and former staff member with the Center for Evidence-Based Mentoring at UMass Boston.

📅 Begins June 9
🗓 Tuesdays & Thursdays
⏰ Noon – 1:00 PM
💻 Sessions will be recorded for registered participants

This course will explore:
✔️ How mentors can support youth mental health
✔️ Relationship-building strategies
✔️ Communication and emotional support skills
✔️ Practical tools mentors can use in real-life situations

This opportunity is open to:
✅ Current Community Connections mentors
✅ Individuals signed up to become a mentor

Strong relationships can make a lasting difference in the lives of young people — and mentors don’t have to navigate that role alone.

💪 Positive Impact Workout – Another Great Saturday Together!

This past Saturday’s Positive Impact Workout brought an amazing turnout of youth, energy, and encouragement at the Nebraska Athletic Club ! From obstacle course challenges to teamwork and movement, it was great to see youth of all ages staying active, building confidence, and having fun together.

We’re grateful for our continued partnership with HOPE - Esperanza and for Tommy Vieyra’s commitment to creating activities that engage youth of all skill levels. What started as a simple idea has grown into a meaningful monthly opportunity for connection, wellness, and positive community impact.

As we wrap up another incredible year of Positive Impact Workouts, we’re thankful for everyone who continues to show up and make these events possible! 💥

Mentoring is powerful—but mentors need support too. 💚

That’s why we provide training, resources, and ongoing guidance to help mentors build healthy boundaries, practice self-care, and feel confident in their role.

Supporting mental wellness benefits everyone in the mentoring relationship.

Resilience grows through support. 🌱

Youth face stress, pressure, and challenges every day. Having a mentor provides encouragement, stability, and someone to celebrate successes and navigate difficult moments with them.

Sometimes, knowing someone believes in you can make all the difference.

🚛 May Impact Night at MPCC

This month, our mentoring group visited Mid-Plains Community College Community College to learn more about their CDL Program and explore careers in the trucking and transportation industry.

Youth had the chance to experience what it’s like to drive a semi through the truck driving simulator, climb inside real semi trucks, and learn more about the training and skills needed for a CDL career path. There were lots of questions, excitement, and hands-on learning throughout the evening!

Experiences like these help young people discover new opportunities, explore future careers, and build confidence through real-world experiences.

Thank you to Mid-Plains Community College Career Services for welcoming our group and giving youth an inside look at the CDL program! 🚚
