The USNLP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to education and preservation of U.S. maritime and naval history during the American Civil War.

Through the means of living history we aim to give the public a relatable insight into history.

Members of the USNLP had a great time in Biloxi,MS! If you missed it, check out the display they set up next to the Jefferson Davis Library. It's always great to meet the public and share our proud naval heritage!

Our next event is the Gettysburg Remembrance Day Parade! Some of our members will be falling in with other naval groups like the Kearsarge Afterguard!

Happy Birthday our United States Navy! 251 years ago Continental Congress approved the establishment of a Navy to protect these new united colonies. 86 years later civil war broke out in America and the Union Navy answered the call to battle. The U.S.Naval Landing Party was formed to teach the public about the histories, heritage and the fortitude these men of Iron had that made up our proud Navy. Be sure to catch us in Biloxi this weekend, we'll be focusing on the torpedoes and the water obstacles the navies on either side faced.

Well another event is in the ship's logbook. We had a small crew and and even smaller visitation numbers, we blame the heat! Despite the warm weather, we indulged in good conversation and camaraderie! We even were able to get Dan Hayden from the New England Civil War Museum & Research Center to put some sailor duds on. Thank you to the Leffingwell House Museum for hosting a quaint little event.

"Leffingwell House Museum invites you to a unique immersive experience of Maritime History on Saturday, August 8, 11-3pm, $8. Each room will feature a display and presentation on some aspect of Maritime history. There will be a special display, from our Archives, of two actual accounts of Whaling voyages written by Thomas Crocker-Blacksmith and John Perkins-seaman, both men from Norwich and a 4 language sea document signed by President Thomas Jefferson used in 1807 on the ship Amazon out of Salem MA. In addition, visitors can speak with Mary Brewster, wife of the captain of the Whaling ship Tiger, who went a-whaling with her husband in 1845 on the same voyage as John Perkins! Learn about her life aboard ship, as recorded in her journal during the voyage. Discover what happened to seaman John Perkins on his hunt for whales. Thomas Crocker will tell you about his whaling voyage experience and the tasks as a blacksmith on a whaling ship. Learn about Sea Shanties and their role aboard ship with talented musician Gretchen, who will also sing a few shanties for you. Young Bernard Hess will talk about his work at the Norwich Arms Company and life in Norwich during the Civil War. Appreciate Macrame knotting used aboard ship with Jane. Find out about all things Navy with the Naval Landing Party! Watch blacksmith Scott Weeks of Hickory Forge work metal and talk with Jon the Native Trader about the role Native Americans played in the revolution!

Now that we've recovered from Baltimore, crews of the USNLP set up a small display and added a little boom to the Inn at Mystic's event this past Sunday. The event honored veterans and the birth of our country with a relay race, a torch lighting ceremony and a gathering of living historians from several eras.

Happy Independence Day! We are blessed and fortunate enough to have the freedoms and liberties that our forefathers fought for 250 years ago! May your day be filled with reflection and joy!

Here's some more photos of our trip to Baltimore! We had the pleasure of staying aboard the USCGC Taney, the last surviving warship from the attack on Pearl Harbor*. It was a creature comfort we deeply appreciated in Baltimore's humidity that weekend. The ships and their crews were great to interact with, talking to all the future naval officers and mariners was a humbling experience. We were fortunate enough to also have some friends of the USNLP take some photos of us while conducting gun drill aboard the Constellation.

Wow what a busy couple of days we have had! From Thursday to Sunday, members of the USNLP set up our displays and conducted presentations aboard the USS Constellation during the Sail Maryland 250 and Air show. Over the course of the festivities we saw over 12,000 visitors aboard the ship! Many thanks to the staff and volunteers of Historic Ships in Baltimore! And it's always great to see our fellow living historians! A special thanks goes to our six shipmates who dedicated their time to this event! Huzzah!
