2026 is an important year for New Jersey. The midterm elections this November will set the stage for the 120th U.S. Congress, with 33 Senate seats and all 435 House of Representatives seats up for election. In New Jersey, voters will elect one U.S. Senator to represent the entire state and one U.S. Representative for each of New Jersey's 12 congressional districts.

As a person with a disability, family member, or someone who cares about a person with a disability, it is essential to learn about the candidates and make a plan to vote in this year's general election. Whoever wins in November will have tremendous influence over the services, supports, and policies that impact people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

We hope that as you make a voting plan for November, you will use this
Get Out The Vote (GOTV) Guide as a handy tool to help you on your way. Inside, you will find more information about the different ways you can vote, important deadlines for registering and casting a ballot, how to locate your polling place, and more. We encourage you to also check out www.GOTVNJ.org for additional resources and information.

The New Jersey Statewide Self-Advocacy Network (NJSSAN) is made up of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) throughout the state. The NJSSAN is used as means of supporting positive change on both a personal and social level. It consists of 6 Councils based on geographic location within the state.

The regional Councils meet on a monthly basis and are open and free to all individuals with IDD. The NJSAP team collaborates with the Council leadership to create an agenda based on what the self-advocates wish to discuss. The NJSSAN Council meetings are a chance for advocates to voice their perspective, learn about issues that impact their lives and the lives of other people with IDD, socialize, and to develop strong advocacy skills.
