Eat Locally Grown Food for Nutrition

To get the biggest nutritional bang for your buck, eat locally grown foods. According to a paper published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry in 2003 and several more recent University studies, vegetables & fruit can lose from 50 to 70% of their nutritional value when stored at cold temperature for 10 days. Any produce transported into the state will be significantly lower in nutrients than produce grown locally. During winter months, more nutrients can be found in frozen fruit and veg than in the high priced fresh produce transported into the state.

Cabot strawberries are a mid-season, June-bearing variety celebrated for producing exceptionally large, sweet, and firm berries, often exceeding 2 inches in diameter. Developed for cold hardiness, they are excellent for fresh eating, baking, and jam. Cabot plants are vigorous but produce few runners, making them ideal for close planting. There are still a small number of bundles available of Cabot, $20 for a bundle of 25 bare root plants. You can call the office at 651-401-3325 to save a bundle and pay at pick up on May 8 & 9th.
