We have important news to share with the HFL community!

In response to rising costs and the growing financial pressures many individuals and families are facing, Hebrew Free Loan Association of Greater Washington (HFL) has increased our maximum traditional loan amount from $20,000 to $30,000 and loans to students from $15,000 to $20,000.

This change means borrowers can access more substantial, interest-free support to cover emergency expenses, consolidate debt, start a business, or expand their family.

This growth is only possible because of the generosity of donors like you. Thank you for being part of a community that shows up for one another.

As HFL enters 2026, we’re reflecting with gratitude on what our community accomplished together in 2025.

Because of your generosity, for the first time in our 117 year history, Hebrew Free Loan Association of Greater Washington (HFL) was able to provide more than $1,000,000 in interest-free loans in one year!

That achievement represents families staying housed, federal workers navigating furlough and job loss, and students continuing their education, all with dignity and support. It also represents the rising need in our community for our vital work.

Thank you for being an essential part of this work, for enabling us meet our community's needs, and for helping us start the year with momentum and hope!

The miracle of Chanukah is the story of a small amount of oil that lasted for eight days, far longer than anyone thought possible. At Hebrew Free Loan Association of Greater Washington (HFL), we see that same miracle every day.

When you make a gift to HFL, your donation doesn’t just help one person once, it is recycled again and again, funding interest-free loans that are repaid and then re-loaned to help another neighbor in need.

Like the oil in the Temple, your generosity stretches far beyond its original measure, creating light, stability, and opportunity over and over again.

This Chanukah, you can help keep that light burning. Make a Chanukah gift today to power a miracle that lasts for generations.
