Francis is in its twelfth season of cultivating a 5000 square foot organic garden with an additional 1200 square feet added a few years ago. In our very first season, we were able to donate 1200 pounds of organic vegetables to feed our neighbors in need. During our twelve seasons we have partnered with several feeding ministries: The LICC Freeport Emergency Food Pantry, the Freeport INN, Meals on
Wheels at St. Frances de Chantel in Wantagh, the Community Cupboard of the Bellmore Merrick School District, the Nassau County Veterans Administration, as well as local families and individuals. From July through mid-October we have a Farm Stand that also helps to sustain the Garden. As of August, 2020, we have donated more than 11,000 pounds of fresh, nutritious produce to local food pantries during our ten seasons. The vision for The Garden at St. Francis has always been the same--to provide our neighbors in need with fresh organic produce, to show our reverence and care for the extraordinary part of the earth that is Saint Francis, and to invite our neighbors to this place of peace and serenity in the midst of this bustling suburb.
