This Pakistani aquamarine stands out for its vivid blue crystal, framed by quartz and layered muscovite. đź’§

Some of the country's best-known aquamarine deposits lie in the Shigar, Braldu, and Hunza valleys, surrounded by the rugged Karakoram peaks. ⛰️ The crystals form in pegmatites, rocks where mineral-rich fluids can help build unusually large crystals.

With enough open space, aquamarine grows into tall, six-sided columns, sometimes measuring more than a dozen centimeters.

Aquamarine is just one of several colorful minerals found in these mountain rocks. The Shigar Valley's pegmatites also produce green fluorite, black tourmaline, pink fluorapatite, and clear or pale yellow topaz.
