This Saturday!!
Youth Summer Bash!! 9am - 4pm
This Saturday, join us for a service project at the church and then some time to hang out, play games, and watch "I Can Only Imagine 2"!!! For the service project, we'll be replacing the wooden beams that surround the playground. If you have access to a shovel, rake, hoe, and gloves, bring them with you. We'll have extra gloves for those who don't have a pair.
Lunch will be cheeseburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings.
If we have enough people show up, we'll be playing a gigantic game of outdoor Human Stratego!!!
And finally, we'll end our time watching "I Can Only Imagine 2". It was just released in February!

In the last leg of our Famine we learned about the safety, water, and food crisis that exists around the world. With activities like a "resource hide and seek" game and "hungry hungry hippos", we talked about the vulnerability many children face around the world. We also spent some time collecting canned goods for our local Paw Packs organization. We added these to our Paw Pack shelf at church! Thank you to those of you participating at home and also for those praying us through. It was a rewarding and humbling time together with the Lord!!!

30 hours DONE!!!

We definitely missed breakfast this morning. We joked about how good some pancakes or eggs would have been, but we are excited to make it 7 more hours. Energy is starting to slow slightly, though some of the youth are still running at full speed (Shane 🤣). This morning we learned how we take education for granted. Many kids around the world don't have access to schooling, or they only have access up to 5th or 6th grade. And though we like the idea of "no school", truly we are fortunate to have the education systems we have in the United States. We are currently talking about Health and the importance of medical care. The reality that children die from simple medical conditions that our bodies can fight off without even medication, because our bodies have been filled with nutrition is another eye opener. We played a game of Penguin Kickball to help us understand just the basic difficulty of having fun with our friends and doing something physical with restraints on our mobility.

We are starting to notice we have missed a meal, but energy is still pretty high. Tonight we've met our host Mahana, a 9year old girl who lives in Niger. We did some activities to help us realize the many, many things we take for granted, like being able to eat more than one meal (plus snacks)and to have a parent in the home that has a stable job. We listened as Mahana shared about her house which is made with straw, sticks, and clay. The students made shelters out of simple material too and found it challenging that they couldn’t make it as large as they wanted to, because the simple materials wouldn't allow for it. So instead, they had make smaller shelters and squeeze their team into it. We all agreed that we wouldn't want to endure a thunderstorm or even rain in the type of shelter Mahana has to live with daily. 20 hours to go!
