Throughout October, DDDS is celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) by highlighting the skills, talents, and contributions of Delawareans with disabilities in workplaces and communities!

Since 1999, Robin has been a bright and shining star within the Leonard L. Williams Courthouse in New Castle County. With 27 years of State services, she continues to bring an upbeat attitude, passionate spirit, and many laughs to her division.

Robin’s dedication, resilience, and commitment to her career have carried her forward through decades of change in disability employment services. While the original program that supported her employment journey has evolved, Robin continues to build on her success with individual Supported Employment services with The Arc of Delaware that support her ongoing professional growth and life planning, including looking ahead to retirement—a meaningful milestone many of us share.

When not at work, Robin enjoys spending time with friends and celebrating her favorite holidays. It is possible that no one can love anything more than Robin loves her cat and the color pink! Everyone in Robin’s life knows that anytime they need a smile, that Robin will be sure to deliver one. Her ability to lift spirits and promote positivity has created friendships that will last a lifetime.

Throughout October, DDDS is celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) by highlighting the skills, talents, and contributions of Delawareans with disabilities in workplaces and communities.

Sal’s journey into employment is a story of determination, growth, and the power of encouragement and support.

While attending culinary school at the Food Bank of Delaware, Sal worked toward his goal of building skills and preparing for employment. When the program felt challenging, staff from CSI encouraged him to recognize how far he had come and reminded him that completing the program could open doors to new opportunities.

With his employment goals in mind, CSI staff supported Sal in applying for jobs, preparing for interviews and the workplace. When Sal received an interview opportunity, he was excited to share the news. With continued support and preparation, he successfully secured a position at Delaware Park. Shortly afterward, he graduated from culinary school, celebrating two important milestones in his journey.

Sal's story is a wonderful example of what can happen when personal determination and the right support come together. He set a goal, developed his skills, completed his training, and secured and maintained employment. These are meaningful accomplishments that reflect Sal’s commitment and hard work. His journey is a reminder that with encouragement, opportunities, and individualized support, people can continue building skills, pursuing their goals, and finding success in the workplace.

Throughout October, DDDS will highlight the skills, value, and contributions of Delawareans with disabilities in workplaces and communities.

"When Briana Wilcox, of Dover, DE, graduated from college, she dreamed of inspiring the next generation by becoming a teacher. Thanks to the Easterseals Delaware & Maryland's Eastern Shore Supported Employment program, Briana's passion is now her career as she teaches little Spartans at the Delaware Early Childhood Center (DECC).

“I love working here; everyone is so nice and welcoming. It is the best job I’ve ever had,” Briana says. “I love having my own money to spend on Amazon shopping, buying food, eating out, concerts, and vacations.”

Briana, who has an intellectual disability, works as an Assistant Teacher with three- and four-year-olds, working closely with the lead teacher. She is growing in her role by taking greater initiative in the classroom, including contributing ideas for activities and assuming more responsibility for classroom cleaning.

“Briana is a valued member of our Little Spartans team. She brings positive energy to our program and genuinely cares for both the children and her colleagues,” Administrator of DECC programs says.

“Briana greets everyone with a smile and has a special way of remembering the little details that make people feel seen, welcomed, and appreciated. Her warmth, thoughtfulness, and positive attitude make a meaningful difference here at DECC.”

“Briana brings enthusiastic energy to her classroom each day. She is excited about the new school year,” Easterseals Employment Specialist, Jaclyn Deldeo-Tolbert, says. “She takes direction and constructive feedback well. She is consistently willing to learn and improve in her role. Her passion for working with young children is evident in the way she interacts with her students.”

Help us ensure Delaware’s polling places are accessible to all voters on Election Day!

CLASI’s Disability Rights Delaware program is looking for volunteers to help monitor polling places across Delaware during the 2026 General Election on Tuesday, November 3.

Through our Protection and Advocacy for Voting Access (PAVA) program, volunteers will help identify accessibility barriers, monitor for ADA compliance, and document whether voters with disabilities can fully participate in the voting process.

What’s involved:
• Attend a 30–45 minute virtual training
• Sign up to monitor at least one polling place
• Visit polling places on Election Day and complete an accessibility survey
• Take photos of any accessibility concerns

No prior experience is required. Trainings will be offered beginning the week of September 28 and continue through the end of October.

Volunteers with disabilities are encouraged to participate!

The Arc of Delaware board member!

Throughout October, DDDS will highlight the skills, value, and contributions of Delawareans with disabilities in workplaces and communities.

For Alyssa, a DDDS employee, having a supportive workplace makes a big difference. A meaningful job means being able to help others, feel respected, ask questions, and find a balance that works for them. Employment also provides an opportunity to earn money and build independence.

They believe that when people with disabilities have the opportunity to pursue careers they want, it can help build confidence, strengthen independence, and create a greater sense of self-worth.

“Everyone should have the opportunity to find work that is meaningful to them.”

This month, we’re celebrating the people, contributions, and possibilities that make our workplaces stronger.
