Newport Bay Conservancy

The Newport Bay Conservancy 501c3 (NBC) is the single nonprofit and non-government organization focus

We organize community-based native habitat restoration and other service activities that involve the public and local businesses in the stewardship of the Bay. We conduct various environmental education programs and nature tours for school and college groups and for the general public to enhance their knowledge and appreciation of the Bay and increase their awareness of the role they play in protecting the environment.

Denise Blocher is our August Volunteer of the Month! She began volunteering in 2014 and became an NBC Naturalist in 2015, providing over 1500 hours of service and support in Upper Newport Bay over the years. Read more about her favorite programs and how she came to volunteer on page two.

Help Newport Bay, come to Coastal Clean-Up Day! On September 19th, 2026, the Newport Bay Conservancy is partnering with local organizations to host our annual Coastal Clean-Up Day event at Upper Newport Bay. From 9 AM to 12 PM you can participate in trash removal, community collaboration, and habitat stewardship.

July's volunteer of the month is Juan Gonzalez! Juan officially joined our team of Associate Volunteers in August 2025. While he has put in 250+ hours of service, we know his contribution to the Bay is much higher, as he's been a community volunteer since September 2024.

Juan works closely with our restoration team on several programs and rarely misses an opportunity to help. From watering native plants in our nursery to removing invasive plants in weekly meet-ups, Juan is present and committed to restoring Upper Newport Bay from the ground up! He's also an avid photographer and loves to share his bird pictures with our team (see a picture he took on page 2!).

Thank you, Juan, for always showing up ready to help our team and, most importantly, the Upper Newport Bay. 🌿
