Firefighters were dispatched just before 11:30pm to 1409 50th Street North. Upon arrival they found the building was fully engulfed in heavy flames and smoke. They battled an intense commercial structure fire that completely destroyed the Airport Lounge bar in east Birmingham. Bureau of Land Management

June 27, 2026 - Mesa County, Colorado
Rapidly shifting winds and a fast-moving new lightning ignition cut off escape routes, dropping visibility to near zero from ground smoke and preventing a rescue helicopter from landing. An extreme wildfire burnover on the Knowles and Gore fires near the Colorado-Utah border trapped five members of the interagency Rifle Helitack crew.

Sadly, Crewmembers Emily Barker, Nick Hutcherson, and Sydney Watson died during the initial burnover on June 27; Nathan Matthews passed away on July 24 from severe injuries sustained in the entrapment.
We send our condolences to their families.

One other crew member survived with burn injuries. We have sent this quilt to provide comfort.

8/17 - Statement from Department:
Many of you have asked how OPD Police Service Dog is doing after a suspect strangled him during an incident last week. We are happy to report that he was discharged from the vet over the weekend, and is at home recovering. He is doing well, but still has some swelling in his chest, lungs and liver that needs to improve before he returns to duty, serving the citizens of Omaha.

He and his handler appreciate the outpouring of support, and the gifts from the community.

We sent this quilt off to show our support.

LT
Sarasota County Fire Department

August 2, 2026 - Sarasota County, Florida
A LT suffered a sudden cardiac emergency while battling a residential fire in the 1000 block of Herndon Place. He passed away three times before being revived by his fellow crew members.

He was in critical condition, but was later released on 8/6. Upon his release, he had one primary mission: to look into the eyes of the men and women who saved his life and say thank you.

We provided this quilt to let him know we care.
