Recently, Pontchartrain Conservancy and Children's Environmental Literacy Foundation co-hosted a virtual student data exchange. 🌎💻

With support from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
and its Gulf Research Program, 3rd–5th graders from Greater Houston and Southeast Louisiana explored green infrastructure, waste systems, and environmental resilience 🌱♻️—sharing ideas and solutions across the Gulf Coast.

Shoutout to Jefferson Parish Schools, Alice Birney Elementary School, Galveston Independent School District, and Burnet Elementary Stream Magnet for supporting these inspiring students. 👏

We’re excited to keep growing these regional exchanges! ✨

🚤🌿 Recently, our Community Engagement Director Corey Miller participated in a boat tour to the Caernarvon Fresh Water Diversion in partnership with Restore the Mississippi River Delta Coalition!

The tour showcased why and how diversions work, highlighting the important role they play in building and sustaining Louisiana’s wetlands and ecosystems. Along the way, Corey shared more about our work and why protecting Louisiana’s ecosystems is so important for our communities, wildlife, and future.

There’s nothing better than getting out on the water, connecting with partners, and seeing firsthand why restoration and conservation matter! 💚

🌎 Today is International Day of Biological Diversity! 🌿🦋

To help raise awareness about the importance of protecting our local ecosystems, Pontchartrain Conservancy’s Chief Scientist, Dr. Eva Hillmann, joined WVUE FOX 8 to discuss the value of biodiversity across the Lake Pontchartrain Basin.

From restoring coastal wetlands and planting native trees to improving water quality and protecting critical wildlife habitat, our work — alongside partners like the Restore the Mississippi River Delta Coalition — helps strengthen and preserve the natural systems that support Louisiana’s communities and environment. 💚

🦗🔬 Recently, staff and volunteers gathered at our New Canal Lighthouse to learn about macroinvertebrates and parasitoids from our programming and science team!
Emma Frederick, our Community Engagement Assistant, trained everyone on the macroinvertebrate investigation activity, showing how these small aquatic bugs can act as indicator species for water quality.

Dr. George Washburn, our Coastal Wetland Ecologist, then gave a fascinating talk about parasitoids — insects that lay eggs in or on other organisms to complete part of their lifecycle. 🐛🦟 It was an engaging and eye-opening discussion for all who attended!
