Community Sailing New Orleans We offer free and low-cost sailing classes for youth, adult, and adaptive sailors, using sailing as a platform for education, career and personal development.

We work to make sailing and Lake Pontchartrain accessible to all - come sail with us! Community Sailing New Orleans positively impacts lives by providing accessible educational, recreational, and career development opportunities on Lake Pontchartrain for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities with an emphasis on serving low and moderate income and minority communities in the area by providing access to a community asset that has been historically inaccessible to those large segments of the population. We have programming for everyone with a special focus on youth, individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, military Veterans, and anyone facing economic barriers to sailing. Community Sailing New Orleans is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

We’ve loved seeing first-timers in our fall Women in the Wind classes learning alongside women who keep coming back for more, all ready to build new skills and sharpen the ones they already have. With potential impacts from Tropical Storm Isaias in the Gulf, we’re postponing Buoy Bash out of an abundance of caution. A safe, fun night on the lake is worth the wait.

A little fake blood, a lot of real-world skills. 🩹🩸

Our Wilderness First Aid course, taught by Longleaf Wilderness Medicine, brought together 10 CSNO staff, local sailors and maritime professionals to get hands-on with wound care, trauma assessment and emergency treatment on the water. Because duct tape can’t fix everything, and “walk it off” gets complicated when you’re on a boat.

Our Operations Director recently welcomed our newest class of Crew to Captain students with a message about what lies ahead on their three-year journey: the opportunity to learn to sail, build new skills and confidence, and discover the many career pathways within the maritime industry.

We can’t wait to see where this crew goes this semester!
