New Milford River Trail

New Milford River Trail Our mission is to make New Milford, CT more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. Goals:
1. Inform residents about the health benefits of walking and biking.
8.

The New Milford River Trail Association is a charitable non-profit organization that supports a vibrant, healthy region by promoting the creation of multi-use trails, bike lanes, walkways, and other measures that make it safer and easier to walk or bicycle for recreation and transportation. Expand community support for the completion of a multi-use, town-length greenway along the Housatonic and St

ill Rivers in New Milford that provides connectivity for residents and visitors to the downtown area, parks, retail, industry, restaurants, schools and Still River Greenway in neighboring Brookfield, preserves scenic land and provides interpretive signage on our town's history, flora and fauna.
2. Draw residents and bicycle tourists into our central business district.
3. Raise awareness of the recreational value of one of our greatest assets, the Housatonic River, by expanding access for walkers and bicyclists.
4. Work closely with the Western New England Greenway on the establishment of a bike route that will connect Canada with New York City.
5. Maintain the beauty of the trails with amenities, such as benches and signage.
6. Promote public and private investment in infrastructure that improves opportunities for walking and biking.
7. Educate bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists on how to safely share the road.

The Empire State Trail in New York, which is 750-miles from NYC to Canada and Albany to Buffalo, will extend an additional 200-miles to Montauk when it connects to the Long Island Greenway. Amazing!

A new 200-mile extension to Montauk will provide safer, greener travel options for Long Island.

This bill is very disappointing. Without funding to connect greenways and trail networks, non-motorized, active transportation options are at risk. Why does this matter? Less cars on the roadways mean cleaner air. The option to ride a bicycle safely to work means a healthy, active alternative that doesn't require expensive gas, expensive insurance, expensive property taxes and expensive upkeep. Instead, what it means is more traffic traveling on broken down roadways spewing more pollution into the air.

An interesting read on a new study showing many people would like to be less dependent on cars- car-free living if better infrastructure existed. Makes sense given cars are so expensive to buy and upkeep, car insurance costs have escalated, and gas prices continue to soar. Let's not forget a healthier lifestyle and fresher air.

Researchers found that nearly one in five urban and suburban residents (18%) express a strong desire to go car-free.
