Big things are happening at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. We're so excited that kids like Lucy will get to benefit from the brand new Heart Institute, under the direction of one of her wonderful cardiologists, Dr. Brian Feingold.

We are equally thrilled that a longtime L4L supporter and former student volunteer, Megan Heath, will also be working at the Heart Institute as a Pediatric Cardiology Physician Assistant. Seeing the students who have led L4L grow up and contribute so meaningfully to their communities has been one of the great joys of this organization!

Lucy was affected by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. We are so grateful to have had access to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, one of the leading centers in the United States to address this condition!

UPMC Children's Hospital of PIttsburgh has been recognized as a Cardiomyopathy Center of Care by the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation, a national nonprofit focused on pediatric cardiomyopathy. This recognition was based on the Heart Institute at UPMC Children's excellence in diagnosing and treating children with all forms of cardiomyopathy.

Pediatric cardiomyopathy is a chronic and potentially life-threatening heart disease that affects how the heart pumps blood through the body. The Heart Transplant Program at UPMC Children's has one of the most active children's transplant centers in the country and continue to be pioneers in the field.

We love to see a mashup of some of our favorites: The best 2nd grade teacher and baby photographer, Jan Sumner, and the best supporter of families of medically fragile children, Zachary's Mission!

Lucy didn't get newborn photos in the NICU, but we're so happy that Zachary's Mission saw the need and now other babies do!

On Tuesday, Layups for Lucy was represented at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation's "Dinner with the Doctors," which brings together CHP doctors and donors to hear about the many ways philanthropy impacts the hospital. Held at the UPMC Club at Acrisure Stadium, this year’s event focused on recognizing supportive care and the inspiring work that Dr. Scott Maurer and Carol May do with hundreds of patients and families each year.

During the dinner, we had the opportunity to present Carol May with Layups for Lucy's latest donation, and meet with many of the staff and families who make such an impact on the quality of care and service that Children's provides.

Today, in honor of what would have been Lucy Beal’s 16th birthday, we are thrilled to share the following news from Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh: “Room 844 in the NICU is now dedicated to Lucy and the Layups for Lucy team in celebration of her life and the incredible impact that your family and community has had on the hospital and in the lives of countless patient families.” We are so excited by this news and to have photos of the dedication plaque/room.

Thank you to each and every person that has volunteered for, donated to, and supported our mission to give to Children’s and has made it possible for us to have contributed almost $300,000 over the years. Lucy & L4L’s impact are now forever memorialized UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. 💜
