Thank you to Mike Stafford, one of our memebers and his family for taking us along on their Alaskan adventure at a recent Rotary meeting! 🏔️🚢

Mike shared photos and stories from the family’s seven-day cruise to Alaska, including glacier views, a helicopter ride, dog sledding, whale watching, a lumberjack show, gold panning, and plenty of beautiful scenery along the way.

What made the presentation even more fun was hearing from several family members who joined the trip. With a group of 25 people spanning multiple generations, they shared some of their favorite experiences, travel tips, and even the creative ways they made the trip educational and memorable for the kids.

We loved hearing about an adventure that brought so many members of one family together. Thank you, Mike and family, for spending the afternoon with us and sharing your memories!

💙 At a recent New Carlisle Rotary meeting, we welcomed Kevin Harmon, president of the Tecumseh Education Foundation, who shared more about the nonprofit’s mission and the incredible impact it continues to have on Tecumseh students and staff.

Established in 1993, the Tecumseh Education Foundation helps create opportunities for students and educators through scholarships, classroom grants, and other support. Under Kevin’s nearly 20 years of leadership, the Foundation has awarded upwards of $2.5 million in scholarships to graduating students and provided more than $100,000 in classroom grants to Tecumseh teachers.

New Carlisle Rotary is proud to be part of that impact by providing funding each year for the Tecumseh Local Schools Teacher Grant Program.

Kevin was also recently surprised with the 'Friends of Tecumseh Award', the district’s most prestigious recognition for a community member. His years of leadership, service, and dedication to Tecumseh earned him a standing ovation from approximately 400 staff members when the award was presented.

Congratulations, Kevin, and thank you for joining us to share more about the Tecumseh Education Foundation. We appreciate everything you do for local students, educators, and our community!

📚 What does it really take to manage a public school budget? At a recent New Carlisle Rotary meeting, Jenna Ashbaugh and Denise Robinson partnered up from Northwestern Local Schools and Tecumseh Local Schools to present, “How to Manage a Budget When the Public Assumes You’re a Liar.”

They gave our members a look at what goes into managing school finances, including the policies, rules, and regulations that determine how funding can be used, the challenges districts face, and the work that goes into making every dollar stretch as far as possible.

It was an interesting opportunity to hear perspectives from two of our local school districts and better understand the complexities behind the numbers.

🏍️ A Clark County Tradition With a Big Heart

At a recent New Carlisle Rotary meeting, members had the opportunity to hear the incredible history behind the Highway Hikers Toy Run.

The Toy Run began in 1978 after a group of Highway Hikers experienced a similar event in California and came home determined to create something meaningful for children in Clark County. What started with just 17 participants and a pickup truck full of toys has grown into a tradition that has continued for 48 years.

Over the years, the Toy Run has brought together thousands of motorcycle riders and helped provide Christmas gifts to generations of local children. More than 100,000 children have been impacted through the effort.

We also heard from FYI about how the toys are distributed locally through the Clark County Christmas Crew, a partnership that helps connect gifts with families throughout Clark County.

This effort takes a lot of hands, and there are opportunities to help with everything from collecting and unloading toys to sorting gifts and preparing them for local families.

The Highway Hikers Toy Run takes place each year on the third Sunday in October. Stay tuned for more information about how you can get involved this year. 🎄
