I sat down today and figured up the cost of fixing kitties. The cost of doing business in rescue is high....
A fully vetted cat at this rescue is spay/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, snap tested for Felv/fiv, microchipped and treated with Nex Gard Combo.
It cost $89.86 to vet an adult cat. $74.84 to vet a male kitten and $99.84 to vet a female kitten at our local vet. We do not utilize the low cost clinics, as we cannot drive to and from them with the amount of manpower we have at our facility. We adopt out our kittens for $100 and our adults for $80, so when I see post about rescues being in it for the money, I laugh.... We also have medical bills, food, utilities, bookkeeping expenses, internet, security fees, cleaning costs, and insurance on the van, plus we have 2 paid workers. The cost of rescue is not cheap...
