Moravian Historical Society

Moravian Historical Society Preserves, interprets, and celebrates the rich culture of the Moravians The Museum is located in the 1740-1743 Whitefield House.

Established in 1857, the Moravian Historical Society (MHS) is the third oldest historical society in Pennsylvania. We share Moravian art, history, architecture, innovation, and culture with the community through events, tours, exhibitions, publications, and more. We are proud to be a Preserve America Stewards Presidential Award winner, a Blue Star Museum, and a partner with National Geographic Mag

azine's Delaware River geotourisim project. Visitors can also view the 1740 Gray Cottage, the oldest Moravian structure in North America. Both buildings are located on the historic, three-acre Ephrata Tract in downtown Nazareth, Pennsylvania.

Nazareth will celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding with a free community festival on Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Moravian Historical Society, the Nazareth Economic Development Commission, and the County of Northampton Department of Community and Economic Development are hosting the event after the town's annual Kazoo Parade.

The day kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with Nazareth’s Annual Kazoo Parade. Parade participants will gather at the Nazareth Area High School. This year, in honor of America’s 250th birthday, the Brandywine Colonials Fife and Drum Corps will lead the parade.

The Parade will end at the Moravian Historical Society, the historic site where Nazareth got its start in 1740. Expect old fashioned fun with a patriotic program, colonial demonstrations, local celebrities, and a variety of food and beverages.

Visitors can take a tethered hot air balloon ride (weather permitting) with thanks to Unity Bank.

We are thrilled to have two of the Lehigh Valley's favorite bands performing: TimeWhys and the Craig Thatcher Quartet.

The Nazareth Farmers Market will relocate to the Moravian Historical Society, where it will be joined by additional vendors.

There will be lots of free patriotic activities for the kids, including games, crafts, and presentations of Nazareth Area School District's Fifth Grade Colonial Days Projects.

Free parking is available at the Nazareth Area High School and a shuttle bus will take you to the Moravian Historical Society.

Join us for Nazareth Celebrates America's 250!

Thank you to the presenting sponsor C.F. Martin & Co. and to Mario Andretti for sponsoring our wonderful musicians 🎶. Thank you to the children's activities sponsors: Fidelity Bank; Morningstar Living; Peters Mortiz Peischl Landes Brienza; and Embassy Bank for the Lehigh Valley. Additional support is provided by the Hotel Tax Grant Program through the County of Northampton Department of Community & Economic Development.

On this , we highlight a flag in the collection of the Moravian Historical Society. This flag was carried during the Battle of Antietam, near Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862. The carrier of this flag, Hugh A. Hamilton, was a student at Nazareth Hall Military Academy from 1858-1860. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

😎 With summer in full swing on this , we are sharing this postcard of the Nazareth Community Park, Nazareth, Pennsylvania. The old pool in the photo was constructed in 1937 as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project. The 18,500 square foot oval pool was the summer home for generations of Nazareth families. Nazareth is fortunate to have such a beautiful park! Happy summer, everyone! 💦

🎓Congratulations to all of this year’s Nazareth Area High School graduates! This image shows another special graduation in Nazareth. In 1940, Nazareth celebrated its bicentennial year and the High School held their graduation ceremony at the Nazareth Borough Park. This image shows the recession of seniors leaving the Park Amphitheater. This was the forty-fourth commencement of the Nazareth High School.

Best of luck to the 2026 graduates! 🎉
