When a job ends unexpectedly, knowing where to turn matters.

NBC Washington spotlighted Employ Prince George’s Rapid Response efforts to help workers affected by the PepsiCo layoffs in Cheverly connect with employment opportunities and essential support.

On October 28, EPG President & CEO LaTara T. Harris joined displaced workers and partners at a Reemployment Information Session & Recruitment Event hosted by EPG in partnership with Teamsters Local 639.

Together with the Maryland Department of Labor and participating employers, we brought hiring opportunities, unemployment insurance resources, health coverage information, and career support into one location.

This is the role EPG plays: connecting people, employers, and partners so workers facing a career transition have access to practical support and a path forward.

Thank you to our partners and NBC4’s Darcy Spencer for helping bring attention to these workers’ experiences and the response underway.

Supporting 117 workers. Connecting experience to new opportunities.

Today, Employ Prince George's (EPG) continued its Rapid Response efforts to support 117 workers impacted by PepsiCo's announced layoffs—including some who dedicated more than 20 years to the company.

At a Reemployment Information Session & Recruitment Fair hosted by EPG in partnership with Teamsters Local 639 at the union's location in Washington, DC, impacted workers connected directly with hiring employers, participated in onsite interviews, and accessed resources to help navigate their next steps.

EPG President & CEO LaTara Harris, reaffirmed EPG's commitment to helping impacted workers navigate career transitions and move forward with confidence. Joe Freeman, Business Agent of Teamsters Local 639, delivered opening remarks, and Cheverly Mayor Micah Watson stopped by to convey his support for impacted workers.

In partnership with the Maryland Department of Labor, the event provided unemployment insurance guidance and reemployment resources, alongside recruitment opportunities with Coca-Cola, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Metro Forward, Department of Public Works and Transportation
Tata Consumer Products, RATP Dev USA, Giant Food and Quality Custom Distribution.

Thank you to Teamsters Local 639, our workforce partners, participating employers, and the dedicated EPG team for helping workers take meaningful steps toward their next opportunities.
