Today, June 13, 2026, volunteers Ledita, Nicole, Jeanette, Karen, David, Diane, Rebecca and Sandy had another productive workday at the Gardens! We w**ded, trimmed, pruned, watered and moved more concrete edging from the demonstration garden.

It was hot but the gardeners enjoyed cold refreshing watermelon as a treat. πŸ‰πŸ˜‹Thanks Kathy and Charles!

Pearlie picked up the basket donated for the Health Fair and we found a birds nest in a Crepe Myrtle tree. πŸͺΊ

Wednesday, June 10, 2026, volunteers did a whole lot of work and had a little bit of fun! 🀣

They w**ded the beds near the Farmers Market pavilion and finished removing the plastic from the annex. The breeze through the screen porch was delightful.

And a pleasant surprise…the zinnia seeds planted Monday are already up! πŸ€—

Thanks Kathy, Charles, Naomi and Sandy. πŸ‘

Today, June 8, 2026, volunteers Charles, Kathy, Naomi and Sandy removed most of the plastic from the annex screened porch, w**deated, and planted tons of seeds for a new bed. We planted yarrow, bells of Ireland, asters, heliotropes, rockcress, calendula, zinnias and coreopsis.πŸ€žπŸ˜‰

And just not sure about that masked man…but he is wearing a cool tshirt!!

Today, May 30th, 2026, volunteers Dale Ann, Michael, Louise, Karen, Diane, Rebecca, Naomi and Sandy enjoyed a very humid workday at the Gardens. πŸ₯΅πŸ«

We started moving the concrete edging from the demonstration garden, to the future zinnia bed, to make room for the new galvanized raised beds. We w**ded and planted grasses and more sunflowers in the prairie garden, and w**d eated around the prairie garden and Hugelkultur. And picked cucumbers from the Hugelkultur! πŸ₯’

And a special treat was meeting neighbors from the local community who brought us Gatorade. πŸ’– They complimented the Gardens and our hard work and we shared turnips and greens with them and fresh raspberries.

And volunteers received their hot off the press NCG tshirts. And who can garden without a little freestyle dancing?!? πŸ’ƒπŸΌ

Today, May 20, 2026, NCG volunteers Kathy, Charles, Naomi and Sandy traveled to the Jr High School for our weekly gardening activity with students. Students painted picture frames stenciled with flowers, leaves, mushrooms and pollinators πŸŒΈπŸƒπŸ„β€πŸŸ«πŸ¦‹πŸ

Student photos will be added to the frames for Father’s Day gifts. And Naomi made cookies to celebrate the end of the school year! πŸ₯³

UPDATE! Teacher, Ms. Monica sent photos of the finished projects and those yet to be painted. πŸ˜ƒ

Today, May 19, 2026, volunteers Naomi and Sandy received some unexpected assistance pulling turnips and greens.🫜 A family touring the gardens jumped right in to help! They also picked kale to take home.

The turnips and greens were donated to the Bread of life soup kitchen, our neighbors. πŸ€—

Today, May 16, 2026, we had another productive workday at the Gardens. πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸŒΎ

We stenciled picture frames for the Jr. High students to paint on Wednesday, transplanted volunteer raspberry bushes, and w**ded. This group is not above w**ding! πŸ’ͺ

We also dug potatoes and harvested and replanted the leeks.

Thanks to a great group of volunteers…Diane, Rebecca, Karen, Dale Ann, Michael, Jeanette and Sandy.❣️

Today, May 13, 2026, we had some new faces for our weekly activity with jr. high students. Six graders came to check out the gardens!

The students started with stretching and then completed three laps around the Farmers Market pavilion.

Students learned about sunflowers and all of their uses and tried sunflower butter on crackers. A hit for some students but not so much for others. 🌻🧈

We planted sunflower seeds for students to take home and also for planting at the gardens. 🌻🌻

Students then toured the gardens including the Monarch butterfly bed and demonstration garden where we are growing herbs, kale, tomatoes, beans, potatoes, muscadines and raspberries!πŸ₯¬πŸ… πŸ«›πŸ₯”πŸ‡

We then moved on to the turnip green patch, prairie garden and Hugelkultur where we are growing squash, cucumbers and a couple volunteer pumpkins. πŸ₯’πŸŽƒ

A super fun day! πŸ§‘πŸΌβ€πŸŒΎπŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸŒΎ
