What happens when censorship legislation moves from policy to practice?

Across Tennessee, educators, librarians, school staff, and students are navigating challenges as K-12 censorship laws are implemented in schools. But what does that look like in practice, and what are the implications for students, educators, and communities?

Join us for a conversation with our partners in the Coalition for Truth in Our Classrooms and ACLU of Tennessee on Monday June 22nd, that will explore what’s happening on the ground, uplift the experiences of those directly impacted, and unpack the legal and educational implications of recent anti-truth censorship legislation.

You’ll hear from Sam McKenzie and Darren Sadler, a Nashville high school student leader on how to collectively push for classrooms that are safe and inclusive for all learners.

Asian and Pacific Islander narratives are important! The marginalization of our community is often tied to being made invisible, so it's important that our students see themselves in the materials they read. We're one of many organizations that are pushing for changes for our state's ELA standards because we believe that every student benefits when they have see stories that reflect the multitude of identities in the state.

The State Board of Education committee recommends revising ELA reading standards to include texts from diverse cultures and perspectives.
