“Home isn’t where you’re from, it’s where you find light when all grows dark.”

Life can be hard. We can face disappointments, uncertainty, loss, and so much more.

Having a safe and affordable place to call home means the world when challenges arise. Home can be a beacon of light in tough times.

What does “home” mean to you in when life is difficult?

"The beauty of caring for seniors is realizing that they are heroes in their own right." Karen Clark

As we shared earlier this week, May is Older Americans Month, a month set aside to honor seniors. It is also a time to support the seniors in our communities.

Did you know: Over 11 million seniors (ages 65+) are cost-burdened by housing due to rising costs, fixed incomes, and limited affordable housing. That is why supporting seniors to find the tools, resources, services and programs they need means the world to us.

Our senior citizens, especially those who are low income, can use everyone’s help, support, care and love.

Here are some ideas to consider:

Volunteer your time. Help with chores, provide transportation, run errands, or provide companionship for seniors who need support.

Donate to organizations that provide services and programs for seniors.

Are you a technology guru? Help seniors with navigationing online or learning how to use computers.

Support your local food bank. According to sources, 1 in 11 seniors face food insecurity.

There are organizations that provide information to write to seniors who may be isolated or in nursing homes. Writing a kind letter or sending a colorful card has been shown to lift spirits!

If your community has a local senior center, support it with your time, money, or talents.

If you have elderly neighbors, check in on them regularly and share your kindness.

Share awareness of the issues that seniors face today and be an advocate for senior causes in your community.

Are there any ideas we missed? Share below! How do you support the seniors in your life and/or community? We would love to hear about it.
