As we once again observe Indigenous Peoples' Day, we encourage our followers to take the time to educate themselves about Indigenous culture, land, and legacy.

Resources like native-land.ca can help you learn whose land you are on. While the Indian Health Service (IHS) has pages with more information regarding Two Spirit identity, we caution our followers that the site currently contains harmful and inaccurate language from the administration.

Youth Outlook firmly believes in a world that celebrates and honors every history and lived experience.

Hip Hip Hooray: it's once again National Coming Out Day! For everyone engaging in the lifelong process of coming out (it's not necessarily a one and done deal!), today is a day to celebrate the brilliant vibrancy of the LGBTQ+ community.

It doesn't matter if you're already letting your rainbow flag fly, if you're celebrating in a more personal manner, or if you're still gathering up the courage to venture outside the closet: Youth Outlook is here to make sure there will always be a Safe, Supportive, Celebratory space for you at any stage of your coming out journey!

We invite our followers to share their own coming out stories in the comments below as a way to show how everyone's unique experiences add to the beautiful tapestry that is our Youth Outlook community.

Equality Illinois continues to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring all the wonderful contributions made to the LGBTQ+ movement by our Latine Leaders. Today we spotlight Dr. Norma Seledon, our Director of Leadership Development and Capacity Building.

“My unique blend of identities—as a q***r, Mexican immigrant woman—and the experiences that come with living at those intersections have profoundly shaped how I understand leadership, power, resilience, and belonging. They have taught me that our communities already hold tremendous wisdom and capacity; our work is to recognize it, nurture it, resource it, and create pathways for it to lead.

I do this work because I want LGBTQ+ people—especially those whose voices have historically been pushed to the margins—to see themselves as leaders, decision-makers, and powerful agents of change. I also want those who hold resources and influence to understand the urgency of investing in our communities.

Perchance you'd like to explore New Orleans with lessons in alchemy of both spirits and self with our Pride in the Big Easy packages, or mayhap you're more inclined to study the secrets of master brewers with our premium Kentucky Bourbon outing. Yet still, an evening excursion with the bards of ye Olde Broadway might capture your fancy with our Broadway Nights in New York package.

Wherever you choose to go on your quest, we are most grateful for your support of the Realm and the LGBTQ+ young ones we serve. The tournament commences on the 16th of October, one week prior to our feasting.

Hark, good gentles, and heed us well! The date of our Grand Festival, our Renaissance Reverie, fast approaches, and with it, comes the opening of our Silent Bidding Tournament (silent auction).

This tournament is not confined to the physical location of the Royal Realm: indeed, entry within the gates is not a barrier to participation for all may bid from anywhere so long as they can access a web portal!

In order to whet your appetites, we shall share previews of the fantastical lots available to bid upon.

This marvelously hand-made piece will not only be on display during the Festival itself, but is also entered within the tournament! Lovingly crafted from hollow PVC pipe, butcher paper, wood glue, hot glue, paint, pool noodles, faux florals, and ribbons, and woven together by a community of supportive neighbors, this one-of-a-kind ten foot tall maypole is a statement piece perfect for set decoration for community guilds or as a unique bit of decor in any welcoming environment. The ribbons feature the colors of the Progress Pride flag, with the flowers arranged to match. A maypole wrapped in an inclusive rainbow: a GAY-pole!

This and many other fantastical finds will be available for bidding once the tournament begins (we plan to sound the starting canon the week before we open wide the gates), so prithee, mark thy calendars well!

🏳️‍🌈 This LGBTQ+ History Month, we honor and celebrate the amazing history we have as a community and we recognize that the fight for LGBTQ+ rights has not ended.

Today, LGBTQ+ students are growing up amid a rapidly changing political landscape, with policies that can directly affect their ability to feel safe and supported at school. But across generations, we have always had LGBTQ+ activists who challenged those discriminatory laws and fought for LGBTQ+ visibility.

This month, we honor those who came before us, celebrate the LGBTQ+ youth leading the way today, and recommit to building learning environments where every student can learn, grow, and be themselves. 💙
