CabarSlay is more than a cabaret.

Stagecraft Collective is proud to partner with Youth Outlook, whose mission is to support LGBTQ+ youth through advocacy, education, counseling, and safe community spaces.

Their work changes lives, and we're honored to help shine a light on their mission during Pride Month. A portion of the proceeds from CabarSlay will benefit Youth Outlook and the young people they serve.

Join us on June 13 for a night of celebration, community, and incredible performances.

What does Pride mean to you?

As we get closer to CabarSlay: A Pride Cabaret, we'd love to hear from our community.

What does Pride mean to you? Is it acceptance? Visibility? Family? Love? Finding your voice? Let us know in the comments.

For us, CabarSlay is about creating a space where stories can be shared, voices can be heard, and community can come together through the arts.

We're also proud to partner with Youth Outlook, with a portion of the proceeds from CabarSlay helping support their mission of empowering and advocating for LGBTQ+ youth and their families throughout Illinois.

CabarSlay isn't just a performance—it's a community.

Meet Aimee Labriola (She/Her)

We're proud to have Aimee as part of this cast and excited for them to help create an unforgettable evening of music and celebration.

"Aimee is beyond excited and honored to be a part of CaberSLAY! She is a full-time dance and theatre teacher in Mokena and has performed in numerous productions around the Chicagoland area. Some of her favorite roles include Tracy in Hairspray, Sandy in SpongeBob, and Medda in Newsies. Aimee is incredibly thankful for her amazing husband, Anthony, and her dog, Winnie. She would also like to thank all of her friends and students who continue to inspire and support her every day."

We're thrilled to have them as part of this incredible group of performers and can't wait for you to see them take the stage.

Meet Leah Kye (She/Her)

We're excited to introduce another member of the CabarSlay cast.

Leah will be joining us on June 13 for an evening of music, storytelling, and celebration as part of Stagecraft Collective Theatre's inaugural Pride event.

"Leah is thrilled to be a part of Stagecraft Collective’s CabarSlay! Leah just got out of her junior year of high school. She started doing theatrical shows in the fall of 2024 and has loved it ever since. Leah is excited to bring these songs (especially “Dance with You”!) to the stage, and thanks her family and friends for all their love and support!"

We're thrilled to have them as part of this incredible group of performers and can't wait for you to see them take the stage.

Pride just started, and that means it's time for Give OUT Day!

Give OUT Day is an annual campaign focused on uplifting LGBTQ+ organizations across the nation with a collective call to action. This year, we're asking our community to Show Up, Give Back, and Love Louder. After all, the only thing more powerful than hate is love!

Local orgs just like us rely on the generosity of our communities to carry out our work. Your donations today will go a long way in helping us ensure LGBTQ+ youth across Illinois are Safe, Supported, and Celebrated.

MUSIC FOR LOVE: A Pride Showcase benefiting Youth Outlook was hosted at Groove Street in DeKalb and headlined by Nik Person with featured performances by Beaverhead, Lady Love (Alex Dawe), and The Woodruffs (including Elisa Curl-Woodruff), the evening showcased a range of musical styles by some of the area's best Q***r and Gender Expansive musicians.

The night kicked off with a wonderful speech by the MC Frankie DiCiaccio (described as a real mover and shaker in the community advocating for LGBTQ+ rights) who shared about how we need community now more than ever and how people were doing that by sitting in those seats and being present that night. All four musicians shared songs, some original and some cover, that they felt sent a message of strength and support to the q***r and trans kids in DeKalb.

Throughout the night, at the Youth Outlook table, folks opened their wallets and their hearts, sharing about how they themselves were a member of the q***r community and wanted to show support, or how two folks in attendance were once Youth Outlook volunteers from years ago (one from our Aurora site and one from DeKalb when it used to be at the NIU Gender and Sexuality building).

Audience members enjoyed free cookies (freshly baked by The Woodruffs, and we can't stress enough how tasty these homemade treats were!) and free pizza, and greeted the owner of Groove Street, Mike. Mike shared that this was only the beginning of performances he wanted to bring to the venue to help support local nonprofits and up and coming musicians.

He said this was the most people he had ever seen in the space and that he cant wait to see it grow even further. We also had some of our Sterling youth come and enjoy the show! Overall, the night felt welcoming, intimate, joyful, and very, very q***r.

Through the community's generosity, we raised $1,421.77 in one night for the q***r youth of the area. That's a combination $394 in cash donations, plus some checks, including one for $777.77 (talk about a lucky number)!

Thank you again to all of the musicians, to all of the audience members, and to Mike and Groove Street for opening your hearts, wallets, and doors to our agency and proving that LGBTQ+ youth in and near DeKalb are Safe, Supported, and Celebrated even beyond the doors of our Drop-In Centers!

Joining us for CabarSlay is Eliseo Martinez (he/him).

Whether you've seen him on stage before or this will be your first time seeing them perform, we're excited to have him as part of this year's cast.

"Eliseo feels just fabulous to be part of Stagecraft Collective’s inaugural CabarSlay performance! Eliseo recently assistant-directed and performed in Fox Country Players’ annual Night of Broadway cabaret, where he also serves as a secretary on the board. Favorite performances include Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey 2), Children of Eden (Noah), Disney’s The Little Mermaid (Sebastian), Big Fish (Will Bloom), and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Chip). Next month, you can catch him crooning as Collins in Rent (Summer Place Theatre, Naperville). He is proud of his step-daughter, Kiersa, for always showing her true colors and performing here with pride. Much love to Jax, Oliver, and Cloudy. "

We're grateful they're sharing their talents with us and can't wait for audiences to experience what they bring to the stage.
