HELP! We need volunteers. Please consider helping us out at the June 20th Juneteenth Festival at Riverside Park. We will be selling our books and publications as we celebrate the day.

The NC Watermelon Festival is just around the corner and MHA will have our annual hot fudge cake booth again. This year we are also going to be selling root beer floats and Coke floats! We need donations of canned sodas and bottled water to sell at the festival. We are looking for canned root beer, Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Zero, Spite / Starry / 7-Up, Dr. Pepper (regular and diet) and bottled water. This week 12 packs of Coca Cola related products are BOGO at Food Lion. You may drop off your donations at The Roberts-Vaughan House on Main Street during our regular business hours, M-Th from 9 - 1, or you may leave them on the back porch after hours. Murfreesboro, North Carolina has a real live gingerbread house - or at least that is what the locals have called it for years.

The entire framed cottage is adorable, but we thought you might enjoy a close-up of the front porch. This house follows none of the usual architectural norms, but the sum of its parts is entirely charming. It was built in 1877 by a lumber merchant for his daughter. We aren't sure who designed the sawn-work trim, or those delightful figures cut into the front porch posts, but it's a sure bet that they were meant to bring smiles. Now that the house has been doing just that for the past 140 years, it might be safe to say "mission accomplished".
