An association of painters from the B'Ham metro, living within 25 miles of Mtn Brook City Hall.

Founded in 1981, the Mountain Brook Art Association of Mountain Brook, Alabama, is a large association of local painters. The club strives to stimulate art in the community, encourage individual and group development and sponsor annual art shows. Membership is open to persons residing within a 25 mile radius of Mountain Brook City Hall. Also of note is that our annual spring show in Crestline Vil

lage is limited to two-dimensional painting and drawing. The holiday show allows hand painted ornaments and gift items. MBAA holds both day & evening meetings in throughout the year that have a social or group critique emphasis. Members have an opportunity to hear from a guest speaker or see a demonstration by a well-known artist at most meetings. The membership directory is updated and posted to our web page.. Newsletters are sent via email the week of each day meeting. Members are expected to be familiar with and uphold the MBAA Constitution and Bylaws found in the directory and to attend association meetings regularly. Annual membership dues are set at $40 and are payable in January. Click here for membership form. Active members who renew after Feb. 1 pay a $10 late fee ($50). NEW members join at $40 up to September then may join at a prorated fee of $20. The annual spring art show, Art in the Village, has been traditionally held in April on the athletic field in Crestline Village. Starting in 2022 the annual show will be moved to Mountain Brook City Hall just around the corner in the midst of busy Crestline Village and its many eateries and shops. Our artists will exhibit both outside and inside City Hall. Original two-dimensional art on canvas, board, paper or flat wood are acceptable mediums for this show. Publication of the show guidelines and registration occurs in January. Members are required to attend at least one meeting during the 12 months prior to the show to be eligible to participate in the show. For several years we have produced a two week holiday show at local malls like The Summit mall with part of the sales going to a local charity. For more information on joining email the club at [email protected],

Current members must renew membership by the March meeting in order to be included listed on the website.

Sacred Stillness - SOLD
8" x 10" acrylic on linen panel
I just returned from Pensacola. I got some good beach photos but I was amazed at the older churches on every corner. This one was not located in Pensacola but came from a reference photo by Hutchison. I love painting churches.

9" x 12" gouache on Arches - "Water Garden at Giverny"

**new medium for me** I worked on this paint-along with Sennelier's Monday Live last week. We painted from a photo reference provided of Monet's water garden at Giverny. This was my first attempt at a whole painting from gouache, and I have to say so far I really love the medium. There are definitely things to get used to about it, and one of them is the goopy texture it gets when it begins to really dry. But otherwise it handles a lot like watercolor, but is much more opaque. I love the vivid colors and the fact that it dries with a very matte finish. Now I am curious how it will work as an underlayer for soft pastel.

, I referred a lot to your gouache demo for MBAA to get info about the medium and how it handles. Thanks so much!!
