ACR came to the aid of Licorice after she nearly lost her life from something as simple as a piece of string.
Licorice had swallowed the string, which became tangled around her intestines.
During emergency surgery, the veterinarian discovered that it had cut off the blood supply to portions of her intestine, causing the tissue to die. The damaged sections had to be removed, along with the string.
It was a difficult surgery but Licorice pulled through. But weeks later, her energy had dropped and sheās lost weight.
We took her back to the vet are waiting for the results of her blood tests. There is concern that the damage to her intestines may be affecting her ability to digest food and absorb the nutrients she needs.
For now, Licorice is receiving nutritional support and B12 injections, and weāre encouraged to see that she has already perked up a little. Weāll continue to closely monitor her and make sure she gets the care she needs.
Licoriceās story is an important reminder for every cat guardian: string, ribbon, yarn, thread, and other small objects can be extremely dangerous if swallowed.
Weāre grateful Licorice survived, and weāre doing everything we can to help her continue to heal.
