Solar and batteries are helping keep the grid reliable through another dangerously hot summer.
A new reliability assessment from NERC found that record additions of solar and battery storage have strengthened the grid’s readiness—undercutting claims that old coal and fossil fuel plants must stay online to prevent blackouts.
Since last summer, the grid added 30.5 GW of solar and 16+ GW of battery capacity—far outpacing new fossil gas additions. These resources are already helping reduce blackout risks in regions like California, Texas, MISO, and the Southwest Power Pool.
📣 Renewables aren’t the reliability problem. They’re part of the solution. 📣
