Solar and batteries are helping keep the grid reliable through another dangerously hot summer.

A new reliability assessment from NERC found that record additions of solar and battery storage have strengthened the grid’s readiness—undercutting claims that old coal and fossil fuel plants must stay online to prevent blackouts.

Since last summer, the grid added 30.5 GW of solar and 16+ GW of battery capacity—far outpacing new fossil gas additions. These resources are already helping reduce blackout risks in regions like California, Texas, MISO, and the Southwest Power Pool.

📣 Renewables aren’t the reliability problem. They’re part of the solution. 📣

New nukes for New York? No thanks! New York doesn't need a new generation of dirty, old, slow, expensive, and dangerous nuclear power. New Yorkers, tell Gov. Hochul that you believe in a carbon-free, nuclear-free, green energy future for New York and call your legislators now! Find your legislators at the link: https://nyassembly.gov/mem/search/

Mark May 20 on your calendars!

We are hosting a free webinar at 7pm EDT and all are welcome including advocates, organizers, neighbors and anyone who cares about New York’s energy future.

Governor Hochul has been building nuclear energy into the foundation of New York’s energy plans while more affordable renewable options keep getting sidelined. Nuclear is too costly, too toxic and too slow and Indigenous communities are already paying the price.

Communities across the state are fighting back and this webinar is where we get organized.

A coalition of 13 organizations is warning that the Trump administration’s push to fast-track nuclear development violates the Atomic Energy Act and undermines independent safety oversight.

The executive orders would weaken radiation protections, accelerate reactor approvals, and prioritize industry expansion over public health and environmental safety.

As NIRS Executive Director Timothy Judson stated:
“There is no ‘fixing’ or ‘reviving’ nuclear energy.”

We need independent regulation, real public protections, and investment in renewable energy—not dangerous nuclear deregulation.

AI data centers are driving explosive energy demand—and everyday ratepayers could end up footing the bill.

In Pennsylvania, regulators are scrambling to create rules that allow massive new energy users to connect to the grid without pushing costs onto households already facing rising bills and shutoffs.

The stakes are high:
⚡ Bills already rising 10–20%
⚡ Utility shutoffs up 21%
⚡ Billions in new infrastructure on the horizon

The question isn’t just how we power the future—it’s who pays for it.
