We have not officially added “monkey travel consultant” to the Mount Dora Visitor Center tourism team, but after his stop at Lakeside Inn, Mount Dora, we do have a few follow-up questions.

Mostly: where was he headed next?

If he was building a proper Mount Dora itinerary, we’re guessing it might include a little browsing at Walk in the Woods for outdoor-ready clothing, shoes, gear, and gifts before heading into the wilds of Donnelly Street.

Then, obviously, a banana situation at Claire's Creperie inside the Mount Dora Marketplace. We have to assume the banana and Nutella crepe would be the order.

After that, some open-air backyard energy at The Yardery Mount Dora, where lawn games, rooftop views, and a little swing time feel very on brand.

From there, it only makes sense that he’d follow the name signs to The Funky Monkey for cocktails, tapas, and downtown energy, then make his way to The Frog and Monkey, Mount Dora’s underground pub, because apparently this monkey did his keyword research.

And to close it out, a scenic detour through the Palm Island Boardwalk, where the trees, trails, lake views, and dramatic disappearance potential are exactly what a Mount Dora monkey itinerary requires.

Very important note: please do not approach, feed, or try to interact with wildlife, even if they appear to be researching a weekend getaway.

But since this little visitor has accidentally become Mount Dora’s most talked-about traveler…

Where else should he monkey around?

Only in Mount Dora does “there’s a monkey by the lake” somehow feel like a tourism campaign writing itself.

Lakeside Inn, Mount Dora had a very unexpected guest this morning after reports of a monkey near Gilbert Park, and naturally, he seemed to find the historic oaks and lake views worth checking out. Our monkey friend has great taste.

As adorable and wildly Florida as this is, please remember this is still wildlife. If you spot him, do not approach, feed, follow, or try to get close for a photo. Enjoy the story from a safe distance as Mount Dora's wildlife authorities make sure our buddy has a safe visit to Downtown.

Fun Florida fact: wild rhesus macaques have been part of Central Florida lore for decades, especially around Silver Springs, where monkeys were introduced in the 1930s and became one of the state’s more unusual wildlife stories.

Safe travels to Mount Dora’s most unexpected visitor. 🐒

We’re taking a sweet look back at Mystic Ice Cream’s grand opening celebration in downtown Mount Dora. 🍦

Mystic Ice Cream has brought something fun, flavorful, and a little bit different to 348 N. Alexander St., with made-on-premises ice cream, more than 30 flavors, and a mix of classic favorites and adult ice cream options.

From Olde Time Vanilla, Strawberry, Oreo, Butter Pecan, and Peanut Butter Swirl to Kahlúa Fudge, Bailey’s, Cherry Amaretto, Whiskey PBJ, Grasshopper, and Coconut Rum, there’s plenty to make a stop at Mystic feel like more than just a quick scoop.

And that’s really what makes it such a great fit for downtown Mount Dora: it’s playful, welcoming, and gives both locals and visitors another reason to slow down, walk around, and enjoy town a little longer.

Special shoutout to our Chamber member and video editing partner, Merch Tent Media . If your business needs help with video, podcasting, or content creation, give them a look immediately!

Today is National Fudge Day, and downtown Mount Dora has a very sweet reason to celebrate.

Meem's Fudge Shoppe is tucked inside Mount Dora Jerky Co. at 128 W. 4th Ave., where owner Brenda LaBattaglia handcrafts small-batch fudge in flavors that go way beyond the basics.

Yes, there are the classics — milk chocolate, chocolate walnut, peanut butter, chocolate peanut butter, cookies and cream, and dark chocolate sea salt.

But then there are the flavors that make you stop and reconsider your whole afternoon: maple bourbon brown sugar pecan, espresso dark chocolate, dark chocolate cherry, caramel cheesecake, chocolate cheesecake, key lime pie, strawberry lemonade, blueberry lemonade, piña colada, orange creamsicle, cake batter with sprinkles, butter pecan, and more.

It’s the perfect little downtown treat while you’re exploring Mount Dora, a sweet souvenir to take home, or a very reasonable excuse to make a fudge stop just because the calendar says so.

You can find Meem’s Fudge Shoppe inside Mount Dora Jerky Co. in downtown Mount Dora.

Because National Fudge Day should absolutely be celebrated properly.

Mount Dora’s historic Train Depot has welcomed people into town for more than a century. Now, the Visitor Center inside it is getting a refresh!

Over the next four weeks or so, the Mount Dora Visitor Center will undergo a major renovation to create a more welcoming first stop for the visitors discovering our town every day.

While work is underway (starting June 14), we’ll remain open as usual, temporarily relocated right next door inside the Train Depot’s Baggage Room. Same historic building, just a different entrance.

This project is made possible thanks to a grant from the Mount Dora Community Trust, with renovation work completed by Cat 6 Roofing & Construction.

We’re sharing a few “before” photos now because this transformation is worth getting excited about. Come see us in our temporary spot during renovations — and get ready for the after.

We’re launching something new for Mount Dora’s food scene. 🍽️

Mount Dora has always been a place where people make plans around a meal — dinner downtown, lunch with friends, drinks on the patio, a favorite spot you keep coming back to, or a new restaurant you’ve been meaning to try.

Now, we’re bringing that energy together for the first-ever Mount Dora Area Restaurant Week, happening Saturday, July 25 through Sunday, August 2.

For one week, participating restaurants will offer special prix fixe-style lunch and dinner menus, with lunch menus capped at $30 and dinner menus capped at $50 (in addition to the regular menu and specials). It’s a new summer dining promotion designed to celebrate our local restaurants and give residents and visitors another reason to explore the area’s food scene.

Our initial restaurant lineup has been announced, and the list is still growing. Restaurants interested in participating can contact the Chamber to join the fun.
