A local dinner can help support a pretty special place in our community. 💛

On Tuesday, September 8 from 3–10 PM, Texas Roadhouse in Mount Dora is hosting a Dine to Donate benefiting Camp Boggy Creek!

For 30 years, Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis has given children with serious illnesses and their families the chance to enjoy a real camp experience at no cost. With medical support built into the experience, kids can swim, fish, ride horses, make friends and simply have fun in a place designed with their needs in mind.

If you dine in or order to-go on Tuesday, just let your server know you’re supporting Camp Boggy Creek and Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of the food sales from your check.

September is a GREAT month to get connected in Mount Dora. 🤝

The Mount Dora Area Chamber has two fun networking events coming up, each with its own personality.

✨ Thursday, September 17 — BUSINESS AFTER HOURS: Books, Boots & Botanico — Celebrating Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

We are supporting Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Lake County, Florida and celebrating Dolly’s legacy and the program’s impact right here in Lake County at Botanico Tacos Tequila. Come network, connect with local businesses and community leaders, and bring a little Dolly spirit with you — Dolly-inspired attire is absolutely encouraged.

A big new addition to Northeast Mount Dora is officially opening its doors. 🙌

The new Nathaniel Bell Community Resource and Recreation Center brings more than 31,000 square feet of recreation, education and community resources together under one roof — including a gymnasium, computer lab, teen lounge, commercial kitchen, spaces for children and seniors, classrooms and more.

Open house hours continue today and Friday from 2–6 PM, and membership is free and open to everyone, regardless of residency. The official grand opening is September 12.

Mount Dora Buzz has a great look inside the new facility and what it will offer the community. Check out their story below. 👇

Coffee, bagels and one very big next chapter. ☕🥯

Bear’s Beans and Bagels has officially made Mount Dora its second home — bringing handcrafted coffees, espresso drinks, refreshers, specialty energy drinks, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, pastries and plenty of personality to its location on 441.

But there’s a much bigger story behind the counter.

Bear’s started in Umatilla just three years ago, with roots that go back to Bear’s grandfather, a longtime Central Florida coffee businessman, and the bagel-hunting tradition the two shared.

Today, Bear and Mel have grown that idea into two locations while trying to hold onto the thing Mel says matters most: knowing their customers, taking care of their team and building a business where people feel like family.

And despite that growth, you’ll still find Mel behind the counter making drinks, training employees, talking with regulars and dreaming up whatever Bear’s has “up their sleeve” next.

Our newest Behind the Business goes beyond the coffee to tell the story of how Bear’s grew, why Mount Dora was next and why Mel says success today looks very different than it did on opening day.

Need a good stretch? We’ve got just the excuse this afternoon. 🙆‍♂️✂️

Join us TODAY at 4:30 PM as we officially welcome Stretch Zone Mount Dora to the Mount Dora Area Chamber with a Ribbon Cutting + Open House!

So what exactly is Stretch Zone? It’s one-on-one, practitioner-assisted stretching designed to help improve mobility, flexibility and range of motion. You relax on a specialized stretching table while a trained practitioner does the stretching — which already sounds better than pretending you’re going to stretch after your workout. 😉

And this isn’t just for athletes. Desk workers, golfers, pickleball players, gym-goers, active adults, or anyone whose back, hips and hamstrings have started sending strongly worded complaints may want to check it out.

Ribbon Cutting: 4:30 PM sharp
Open House: Immediately following
Complimentary 10-minute assisted stretch demos
Location: 3222 State Rd 44, Mount Dora
Free and open to the public

Come meet the team, tour the studio, try assisted stretching for yourself and help us give Stretch Zone Mount Dora a proper Chamber welcome.

We’ll bring the giant scissors. You bring the tight hamstrings.

You shouldn’t have to find out Monday that you missed something good in Mount Dora.

This weekend, Friday, Aug. 28 through Sunday, Aug. 30, has a little bit of everything — a free All About T. rex program at the library (plus a 20-foot T. rex skeleton replica on display), a St. Jude charity ride, sketch comedy at the Mount Dora Music Hall, bluegrass, the Village Market and plenty of live music around town.

We pulled together the highlights, spotlighted a few events worth a closer look and made it easy to see what’s happening all weekend.

Check out the full guide — and if we missed something happening around town, drop it in the comments. 👇

Dolly Parton touched millions of lives through her music, but one of her greatest legacies can be found in the hands of a child opening a book addressed especially to them.

Because of Dolly, more than 1,400 children across Lake County now receive a free book in the mail every month through Triangle Community Alliance (Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Lake County, Florida), the official local partner of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

Just two and a half years ago, only two local children were enrolled. Today, more than 1,400 are participating—including 1,000 who joined in 2025 alone.

Children can receive a new, age-appropriate book every month from birth through age five, building a personal library of as many as 60 books at no cost to their families.

Because of Dolly, local children are discovering the joy of reading. Families are sharing stories together, and more children are beginning school with a stronger foundation for learning.

Because of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Lake County, Florida / Triangle Community Alliance, Dolly’s vision continues to reach more families throughout Lake County.

As we remember Dolly, we can help carry her work forward. A $36 donation provides one local child with 12 books—an entire year of reading, learning and imagination.

Supporting Triangle Community Alliance is a meaningful way to honor Dolly and help her legacy live on for generations to come.

A new kind of learning experience is taking shape for Mount Dora-area families.

AlexisAdapts Adventures, created by longtime Lake County educator Alexis Jandreau, gives children ages 4–10 a small-group space to learn through movement, play, connection and hands-on activities — with both neurodivergent and neurotypical children welcome.

The goal goes beyond academics. Kids have the chance to build confidence, friendships, communication skills and a real sense of belonging in a class designed to meet them where they are.

Classes are held Tuesdays at Evolve Dance & Fitness Studio in Eustis, cost $15 per session, and Step Up For Students Unique Abilities funding is accepted. Registration is available through the Evolve Dance app.

For 20 years, First Presbyterian Preschool of Mount Dora has been part of the Mount Dora community—growing largely through word of mouth, repeat families, and the kind of personal connections that come with a small-school setting.

Since opening in 2006, the school has built its reputation around experienced teachers, small classes, a warm Christian environment, and an approach where children and families are genuinely known.

Today, First Presbyterian serves children from preschool through kindergarten, with plans to keep growing. Director Amy Gustafson hopes to eventually add a grade each year and build toward a full elementary school—if the school can find the space to make it happen.

That makes this anniversary about more than looking back. It’s also a glimpse at what could be next for a longtime Mount Dora preschool that has spent two decades growing alongside local families.

Happy 20th anniversary to First Presbyterian Preschool!
