This MONTH in LGBTQ History...

• The Society for Human Rights—the first known U.S. gay rights organization—was founded in Chicago by Henry Ge**er.
• 1973: The American Psychiatric Association (APA) removed homosexuality from its official manual of mental disorders.
• 1978: Openly gay San Francisco City Supervisor Harvey Milk was assassinated (on November 27, though October marks significant periods of his activism and political impact).
• 1987: The AIDS Memorial Quilt was first displayed publicly on the National Mall in Washington, D.C..
• 2010: The federal policy "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was officially repealed (signed into law/ruling phases around late 2010).
• 2017: Danica Roem was elected as the first openly transgender state legislator seated in U.S. history in Virginia.

Together, we keep our community thriving when traditional funding disappears. 🏳️‍🌈✨
To everyone who has ever attended a Lake County Pride event, followed our page, or supported our vision—thank you. Your presence builds this community, and today we need to share some urgent reality.
Following recent state legislation restricting local government diversity spending and broad federal rollouts cutting support for LGBTQIA+ programs, traditional grant funding has drastically dried up, leaving virtually no public grant opportunities available for gay and trans organizations in our region.
Because we cannot rely on government or institutional grants to survive, our community programs are entirely up to us. Today, we are looking for dedicated neighbors to help us keep this vital work alive year-round through two direct actions:
