ANNOUNCEMENT: $33,268 INVESTED IN MORRISON STUDENTS

Morrison Schools Foundation (MSF) is proud to announce that it contributed $33,268 toward student activity fees for the 2025–26 school year!

The Student Activity Fee Initiative, introduced during the 2025–26 school year, helps offset the cost of participation in junior high and high school activities. Its purpose is simple: to remove financial barriers and ensure more students have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities.

This initiative was made possible through the generous bequest of Dr. Richard "Doc" Vandermyde. More than 10 years ago, Doc met with the Morrison Schools Foundation to share his concern that activity fees could prevent some students from participating in the programs that enrich their educational experience. Thanks to his extraordinary generosity and lasting investment in the Foundation's mission, that vision has become a reality.

We're also excited to announce that, because of the program's success and the continued support of our community, the Morrison Schools Foundation will once again fund the Student Activity Fee Initiative for the 2026–27 school year.

We encourage all Morrison students to get involved, try something new, and take advantage of the many opportunities available through school activities. Thank you to everyone who helps make these opportunities possible for our students!

MSF is proud to announce the winner of its annual “MSF District Employee Volunteer of the Year” award - High School Teacher Brian Bartoz!

Many know the countless hours Mr. Bartoz puts in over and above his “normal” duties, whether it be advising student groups, working concessions, helping with prom, coordinating special events, volunteering for community projects such as Morrison Winter Park, and MANY more.

On hand for the award presentation by MHS Principal Dr. Markham were MSF board members Jackie Damhoff, Elizabeth McKee Yaklich, Tiffany Williams Tipton, and Trent Bush.

Congratulations to Mr. Bartoz and thank you for your service! MSF will be making a $250 donation to a school cause of Mr. Bartoz’s choice in his name and honor.

MSF was honored to present its annual “Grandpa T Volunteer of the Year Award” this morning to Bette Wiebenga! This award is given annually to recognize the outstanding contributions of one extraordinary volunteer. The award is named in honor of “Grandpa T” (John Taets), who volunteered for at least 25 years for the District.

Mrs. Wiebenga has volunteered in the District since her retirement 5 years ago. She has helped at both Northside and Southside, doing a variety of tasks both inside and outside the classroom, including the beautiful gardens at Northside!

Her name is displayed on a plaque at Northside and a donation of $250 will be made to a District program of her choice in her name.

Thank you to Mrs. Wiebanga for your dedicated service! Thank you also to all the other nominees and volunteers. MSF, the teachers, our students, and Community thank you!

Congratulations Bette Wiebenga for being selected as this year's "Volunteer of the Year" award by the Morrison Schools Foundation. Bette works behind the scenes with the PTO Holiday shop, reads to students, takes care of the landscaping at Northside, and so much more. Bette, thank you for everything you do for all of us!

Thank you to everyone that came out to our “Christmas in March” Trivia Night on Saturday. We had a great time! Special thank you again to our trivia master Adam Smith and Brick Block Pub for closing down for the evening and letting us host our event and of course to all of our trivia participants!

MSF is proud to announce the recipients of its 2025-26 mini-grants!

The MSF Classroom Mini-Grant program funds teacher requests up to $300 for special teaching tools and/or curriculum tools to help enhance student achievement in the classroom.

The following teachers were recipients of a 1st Quarter mini-grant: Heather Bush, Denise Batterton, Dana Bass, Meridith Layne, Lindsay Ebersole, Devin Darsidan, Wendy Connelly, Stephanie Shaffer, Dennis Weston, Lindsay Workman, Ann Brackemyer, Bronson Mintun, Jennie Gowan, Anne Mills, Shanna Medenblik, Annie Knie, Anna Story, and Jennifer Schipper.

The following teachers were recipients of a 3rd Quarter mini-grant: Amanda Milder, Andrea Wolever, Ryan Oetting, Wendy Connelly, Dennis Weston, Lindsay Workman, Heather Bush, Jennie Gowan, Amber Wright, Ann Brackemyer, Meridith Layne, Stephanie Shaffer, Anna Story, Denise Batterton, Korby Hubbard, Megan Modglin, Jennifer Schipper, and Susan Wilkens.

This infusion of ALMOST $10,000 (!!) in direct impact dollars is made possible through the communities' generous support of our various special events throughout the years.
