A huge THANK YOU from The American Legion! ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

This morning, we had an amazing group of volunteers help us carefully retrieve 1,076 flags from the graves of our veterans at Grove Hill Cemetery. We truly appreciate your time and dedication!

What happens to the flags now?

Sorting & Counting: We will organize the flags so they are ready to fly proudly again next year.

Respectful Retirement: Any flags that are worn, torn, or no longer pass muster will be set aside. We will retire them with dignity at our annual Flag Burning Ceremony this September.

We couldnโ€™t do this without the support of our wonderful community. Thank you for helping us ensure our veterans are always remembered and respected.

Big Congratulations to Our Outstanding Students!

Join us in celebrating now-freshmen Easton Swanson and Eliana McDearmon for receiving the prestigious American Legion Patriot School Award!

This honorable award was presented on May 27, 2026, by Legionnaire Korey Zigler, Adjutant of The American Legion Post 328 in Morrison, Illinois.

What makes this recognition so incredibly special is that these students were chosen by their very own classmates to acknowledge their outstanding merit, character, and patriotism. Along with the honor, the award carries a $50 monetary grant for their discretionary use.

Legionnaires of Post 328 are so very proud of these young students.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Honoring a True Treasure of Post 328: Bob Brands ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize an incredible man who embodies the very spirit of service, dedication, and comradeship.

Bob Brands is a 96-year-old Korean War veteran and has been a proud, dedicated member of American Legion Post 328 for an amazing 45 years.

For decades, Bob has been at the heart of everything we do:

๐ŸŽ–๏ธ The Honor Guard: He faithfully served on the Honor Guard, paying final respects to his fallen brothers and sisters at veterans' funerals until just two years ago.

๐Ÿฅ Parades: He was right there with us, proudly marching down the street until just two short years ago (at the incredible age of 94!).

Bob, thank you for your service to our country and your unwavering devotion to our Post. You are a true treasure, a living legend, and an inspiration to every single one of us.

Join us in celebrating Bob! Drop a comment below to thank him for his lifetime of service. ๐Ÿ‘‡ Or share a favorite memory of Bob if you have one!

Now that Memorial Day weekend has come to a close, we want to share a recap of our Postโ€™s activities and take a moment to thank our amazing community! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Here are some highlights from a busy and deeply meaningful weekend:

๐Ÿš— The Parade & Ceremonies: We had a fantastic time at the parade! A special highlight was honoring our two oldest active Post members, who rode in style in Red, White, and Blue convertibles. A huge thank you to Dave Damhoff for hosting and towing the hayrack so our veterans could ride comfortably together along the route! We also held our traditional memorial services, including the presentation of the colors, wreath laying, and a rifle salute to honor our fallen heroes.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Honoring Veterans' Graves: A massive shoutout and congratulations to our two scholarship winners! They officially received the second half of their scholarships after stepping up to help us place exactly 1,076 flags on the graves of veterans.

๐ŸŒบ Annual Poppy Campaign: Thank you to everyone who donated and wore a red poppy this weekend. In the photos below, you'll see some of our dedicated Post volunteers out and about with our generous host business members. Thank you to the local businesses for giving us a space to collect donations!

Thank you to everyone who came out to remember, honor, and support. God bless our veterans, and God bless America. โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Join us for the Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Calling all veterans! You are invited and highly encouraged to ride the veteran's hayrack. This meaningful tradition was started in 2000 by Dave Damhoff and his father, Don, a World War II veteran. Though Don passed away in 2016, Dave proudly continues to host and tow the hayrack today in his memory and to honor all who served. Steps are provided to aid in getting up on the hayrack.

We will travel west on Main St., turning north on Genesee St., and heading east on High St.

The parade will conclude at the Morrison Veterans Memorial & Park at the newly roofed and landscaped pavilion. Gather with us for a beautiful morning featuring presentations, patriotic music, and a special guest speech by U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, Korey Zigler.

We can't wait to see the community come together to honor and remember. Hope to see you there! โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ THANK YOU TO 5 STAR LANDSCAPE DESIGN! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

The American Legion wants to give a massive shoutout and a heartfelt "thank you" to Mr. Javier Carreno of 5 Star Landscape Design right here in Morrison!

Javier generously volunteered his professional labor and materials to completely clear out the area and lay beautiful new rock and mulch all the way around the Morrison Veterans Park & Memorial Pavilion. ๐ŸŒณ

Why this matters: In the past, the area could get wet and muddy, creating a real challenge during ceremonies. Thanks to Javier's hard work, our Legion Color Guard can now post the colors with the dignity they deserve during our Memorial Day event, without standing in the mud!

He did this entirely out of the goodness of his heart to support our local veterans and the citizens of Morrison. The pavilion looks incredible with Javier's teams hard work (along with the new roof) and we couldn't be more grateful for his generosity!

A Huge Thank You to Our Incredible Community! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

A massive thank you goes out to all the volunteers who helped plant 1,076 flags on veterans' graves this morning at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison.

In addition to our dedicated Legionnaires, we had wonderful support from the Whiteside County Civil Air Patrol, Girl Scouts, Key Club, Lions Club, Scouts of America, Morrison Historical Society and Sauk Valley IMPACT students. A special shout-out also goes to our two Legion Scholarship winners, Bella Scachette and Harper Buikema (pictured by themselves helping prior to a softball tournament), alongside all the community volunteers who showed up to help.

Thanks to this amazing turnout, we were finished in just about an hourโ€”a far cry from the four hours it used to take just a few years ago! We truly appreciate your time and support. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
