Last week of Sherman School SKORE Afterschool program wrapped up with Wednesday's cooking group totally enjoying making two types of no bake desserts: rice krispy treats and Swedish chocolate balls. Sugar overload to finish our sessions.

Sherman School SKORE Afterschool kids today learned about seed parts and germination, set up a seed sprouting experiment, made seed art, and taste tested apples with peanut butter & vanilla yogurt dip plus fresh pineapple.

Wednesday's SKORE Afterschool cooking group learned about appetizers, different names for them, purpose, and types. Then prepared, baked and taste tested OSU Food Hero Brocco Poppers then made Fruit Pizza.

This week at Sherman School SKORE Afterschool program, the Tuesday garden science group learned more about potatoes, read labels on potato food items, tested how much fat was in fried vs baked potato chips, and taste tested oven cooked French fries. It was interesting that the fried potato chips with the most fat had the least number of ingredients; the so-called healthier baked chips included sugar and were heavily processed; and the fairly low-fat frozen French fries had a very large number of hard-to-pronouce ingredients!

SKORE afterschool cooking this week focused on more sandwiches: bacon cheeseburger and a Hawaiian burger. We practiced food safety by checking temperatures and cooking burgers until juices ran clear.

This week at Sherman School SKORE afterschool the Garden Science group recieved their certificates for completing eight weeks of the curriculum plus showed off their fruit and veggie masks.

This week at Sherman School SKORE Afterschool program...Tuesday's group learned about carrots, radishes and lettuce, made plant markers for their home gardens, and heard about Go, Slow, and Whoa foods (eat lots, eat some, recognize as a treat or junk food). Wednesday's cooking group prepped for, made, and taste tested regular hard shell tacos then soft soft breakfast tacos with eggs, beans and chorizo.

At Sherman School SKORE this week Tuesday's Garden Science kids discussed tasks of caring for a garden and learned about food groups. Wednesday's cooking class got brave and prepared, grilled and ate Cuban and Reuben sandwiches.
