About our product: Since 1939, our master Ecuadorian craftsmen have been hand carving decorative marble gifts inspired by the local marine life. Their highly developed skills and crafts have been handed down for generations, from family to family, and now extends far beyond their borders to you. As partners with S&S Handcrafts, the artisans unanimously agree to join us in exercising fair trade standards and practices to "give back" to the region in order to ensure the enrichment of it, as well as their own lives. For as a socially minded business, it is our philosophy that it is only when we all do good, that we can all do well. A brief note about our foundation: THE TURTLEMAN FOUNDATION: is our very own "give back" program dedicated to our beloved sea turtles. Every year we donate a portion of our annual proceeds to The Georgia Sea Turtle Center and The Hawaiian -Environmental Alliance (KAHEA). These two groups were selected for their prolific work with local turtles and sea life. Thank you for your purchase, it is your partnership that makes this possible.

This little loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) is beginning its journey to the ocean at Playa Pui-Puy, Venezuela. 💙

🧭 DID YOU KNOW?

Sea turtles can use Earth’s magnetic field to navigate. Their natural journey from the nest to the sea is an important part of their early life. Let hatchlings crawl naturally through the sand. Never pick them up or carry them to the water unless trained conservation personnel determine intervention is necessary.

Las tortugas marinas pueden utilizar el campo magnético terrestre para orientarse. Su recorrido natural desde el nido hasta el mar es una parte importante de sus primeras etapas de vida. Dejemos que las crías avancen por la arena por sus propios medios. No las levantemos ni las llevemos al agua, salvo que personal capacitado determine que es necesario intervenir.

🌍🐢 FROM OUR ALLIES IN KENYA

At The Turtleman Foundation, we believe that education is conservation. 💚 We are proud to share this experience from our allies at Diani Turtle Watch in Kenya, where students from Magombani Primary School took part in an inspiring day of sea turtle conservation education.

🐢🌊 Inspiring the Next Generation of Sea Turtle Conservationists!

In partnership with the Turtleman Foundation, Diani Turtle Watch was delighted to host students from Magombani Primary School at the Marine Centre for an engaging conservation education session.

The day combined learning with action, beginning with a beach clean-up exercise, followed by an interactive talk on sea turtles and their protection. The students then participated in group discussions and shared presentations on what they had learned throughout the session. 🐢🏖️

Conservation education is just as important as fieldwork. While our field activities directly protect sea turtles and their habitats, education helps create long-term behaviour change within our communities by empowering young people with the knowledge and responsibility to become environmental stewards.

We hope that through these experiences, we can raise a generation of young stewards who will champion the protection of sea turtles, our beaches, and the wider marine environment. 🌊💚

A big thank you to the Turtleman Foundation for supporting conservation education and to the students and teachers of Magombani Primary School for making the day such a meaningful one!

🐢✨ A REMINDER: KEEP BEACHES TURTLE-FRIENDLY

Sea turtle nesting and hatching seasons vary around the world, depending on the species and location.

But wherever and whenever it happens, the responsibility remains the same:

🧹 KEEP IT CLEAN
Remove trash and objects from the beach.

🌙 KEEP IT DARK
Reduce artificial light visible from the beach.

🏖️ KEEP IT FLAT
Fill in holes and remove sand structures and other obstacles that can interfere with nesting turtles and hatchlings.

Different seasons. Different places.
The same responsibility: protect the beach. 🌊

🐢 What can you do today to help keep a beach turtle-friendly?

Every small action can help give nesting turtles and hatchlings a safer path to the sea.

A stranded sea turtle is any sea turtle found on land or in the water that is dead, injured, sick, or showing abnormal behavior.

⚠️ Whether the turtle appears alive or dead, report it to the appropriate local organization. A turtle that appears lifeless may still need help. Do not assume it is dead. Trained responders should assess its condition.

📞 Immediately contact the sea turtle conservation or rescue organization in your area.

📋 Follow their instructions carefully and do exactly what they recommend while you wait for trained responders to arrive.

🐢 Keep your distance and keep people and pets away.

📸 If it is safe, take a photo or video from a safe distance and share the location with the organization.

🚫 Do not touch, move, or push the turtle back into the ocean.

🔎 Don’t know who to contact? Search online for:

“sea turtle rescue + [your location]”
or
“sea turtle conservation + [your location]”

You can also search:

“wildlife rescue + [your location]”
or
“wildlife authority + [your location]”

Look for a local organization, wildlife authority, or trained sea turtle rescue team that can respond to the situation.

Your quick call could make a difference.

🐢 Look at this little climber!

This nest had already hatched, but one tiny hatchling was left behind. She made her way out on her own, climbed across the beach, and successfully reached the sea! 🌊💚
