🇺🇸 VFW Post 1111 — Honoring Veterans, Serving Our Community!

10/15/2026

On this day in 1781, British General Lord Cornwallis launched a desperate pre-dawn counterattack against American and French lines during the Siege of Yorktown.

It failed.

That failed attack sealed the fate of the British army. Four days later they surrendered, effectively ending major combat in the Revolutionary War and securing the independence of a new nation.

The men who held those lines that night—Continental soldiers and their French allies—fought for something bigger than themselves. They endured hardship, risked everything, and delivered a victory that still defines us.

Today, the Veterans of Foreign Wars continues that same mission: standing for those who stood for us. We honor the warriors of Yorktown and every generation that has followed them into harm’s way.

From the birth of our freedom to the conflicts of today, the sacrifice remains the same.

🇺🇸⚓ HAPPY 251st BIRTHDAY TO THE UNITED STATES NAVY! ⚓🇺🇸

On October 13, 1775, the United States Navy was established, beginning a proud tradition of courage, honor, and commitment to defending our nation.

Today, VFW Post 1111 proudly honors the generations of Sailors who have served and continue to serve our country, protecting our freedoms and standing ready wherever duty calls. We are grateful for their sacrifices, their dedication, and their unwavering commitment to the United States of America.

To all who have worn the Navy uniform, past and present, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your devotion to our great nation. Fair winds and following seas! ⚓

🇺🇸 MEDAL OF HONOR MONDAY | SGT. ALVIN C. YORK 🇺🇸

This Monday, VFW Post 1111 honors Sergeant Alvin C. York, a World War I hero whose courage and leadership helped turn the tide of a desperate battle.

Born in rural Tennessee in 1887, York was a farmer who initially struggled with the idea of going to war because of his religious convictions. After joining the U.S. Army, he ultimately answered his nation’s call to serve.

🔥 COURAGE UNDER FIRE

On October 8, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France, York’s platoon came under devastating machine-gun fire. After several noncommissioned officers became casualties, York took command of the remaining men.

Leading seven soldiers, he fearlessly attacked the enemy machine-gun positions. His actions helped silence the guns and resulted in the capture of four German officers and 128 enlisted men.

His extraordinary bravery earned him the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest military award for valor.

🤝

Sergeant York’s story reminds us that leadership isn’t about rank alone—it’s about stepping forward when others need you most.

At VFW Post 1111, we honor veterans who answered the call, stood beside their fellow service members, and made sacrifices in defense of our nation. We also carry a responsibility to ensure their stories are remembered and their service is never forgotten.

Today, we honor Sergeant Alvin C. York and all those who demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of adversity.

🇺🇸 Their service is our legacy. Their sacrifice is our responsibility to remember.
