Huge, thank you Tyler Fisher for bringing this young bird to my house for Rescue.

Logs were brought into his work and it appears one of the trees cut down contained a nest of flicker woodpecker babies.

Only one was found

In hoping if there are others, they can also be located. For the moment, this little guy is safe, active & calling for its parents. It seems relatively unhurt from its ordeal.

I can’t get over how cute it is. 🥰

Please be mindful it is baby season, if you are clearing land, bushes, trees etc. You can save lives, birds mature in a matter of a few short weeks. You won’t have to wait long if you spot a nest and give them time to fledge/leave.

And as usual, the guy will be going to Wildside Rehabilitation and Education Center please donate to them if you can, every penny counts!

Here is an unappreciative & very offended Great Horned Owl I rescued yesterday evening from the Chesaning/Oakley area.

Other than having a low keel score “thin” the bird didn’t have any signs of physical injury.

Hopefully all this bird needs is to fatten up and be released.

It has been taken to Louise Sagaert for a complete medical examination.

Located at M-20 Animal Hospital in Midland today!

She also does health checks & maintenance appointments for birds if anyone needs nail, wing and beak trims!

Relaxing outside after a vet appointment. All healthy :)

Eight crested ibises were released into the wild in a north-central Japanese town, decades after the birds went extinct in the country.

The birds went extinct on the Honshu main island in the 1970s, threatened by overhunting and environmental degradation.

Here is something a lot of people outside falconry probably do not understand.

Most wild-caught falconry birds are not “taken” from the wild in the way people might imagine. In many cases, they are better understood as being borrowed from the wild.

A young bird is trapped during a legal season, cared for, trained, hunted with, and given a much better shot at surviving the most dangerous stretch of its life. Young raptors face high mortality in their first year as they learn to hunt, avoid predators, survive weather, and navigate a world full of vehicles, power lines, starvation, and other hazards.

Under a falconer’s care, that bird gets food, protection, conditioning, veterinary care when needed, and daily hunting experience. And when the time is right, many wild-caught falconry birds are released back into the wild as stronger, healthier, more experienced hunters.

Even after years with a falconer, a wild raptor is still wild. They do not become pets. They do not become domesticated. If released, they return to being exactly what they always were.

That is one of the things that makes falconry so unique. It is not ownership in the usual sense. It is a temporary partnership with a wild predator.
