Project Save & Shine: Help Us Bring Smiles Through Rescue and Adoption Education

Project Save & Shine was created to teach elementary-aged children about responsible pet ownership, animal rescue, fostering, and adoption through a unique hands-on learning experience.

Each student becomes a "Youth Foster" and is given a realistic stuffed animal that resembles animals commonly found in rescue organizations. The students "rescue" and foster their stuffed animal while completing a creative writing project. They name their pet, describe its personality, likes and dislikes, any special needs it may have, and explain how to properly care for it.

Once completed, all of the foster animals are taken to special adoption events held at Villa Toscana Nursing Home and St. Francis School. Residents, Pre-K students, and Kindergarten students are invited to select the stuffed animal that captures their heart and officially adopt it as a gift. Each adopter also receives the personalized pet profile created by the Youth Foster, allowing them to learn all about their new companion.

This program teaches compassion, responsibility, kindness, and the joy of giving. It creates meaningful connections between generations and brings smiles to everyone involved, from the students carefully preparing their foster pets for adoption to the excited residents and children finding the perfect animal to take home.

We are currently seeking donations of realistic stuffed animals so that every student in our 5th-grade class can participate in this special project. If you, your business, or someone you know would like to help, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we can provide donation receipts for all contributions.
You can donate directly from our Amazon Wish List here:
