It's a perfect day to view history in Montello. Stop at the 20 Look Back signs around Montello and see what it looked like over 100 years ago. Just use your phone to scan the QR code. Here are some visitors using one of the signs to view history. Last week alone we had 85 viewers using the QR codes on the Look Back signs. We had over 300 viewers on the Marquette County John Muir Nature and History Route mobile app! and we had 45 folks using the app on the Montello Historic Walking Tour.

Singer, songwriter Sam Ness is coming to the historic Montello Theater to present a “Listening Room” Style Concert on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. This special evening marks one of the first live music performances hosted at the theater in generations, making it a truly historic event for the community.Originally built in the late 1800s, between 1859 and 1879, the Montello Theater stands as one of the area’s most unique and historic landmarks. Believed to have not hosted a live performance in over 100 years, this concert represents an exciting revival of live entertainment within the historic venue. In 2025, Sam Ness was honored as the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Folk Performer of the Year. In 2024, he became the youngest person to enter the Madison Music Hall of Fame after winning Male Vocalist of the Year 5 times. Sam has won 15 Madison Area Music Awards. He recently returned from 5 weeks touring in Ireland and Scotland, where he honed his skills as a street performer more than a decade ago.Mixing traditional folk and Americana roots with an alternative-indie feel, and drawing from more than 1,500 performances worldwide, Sam’s music is steeped in authenticity and inspired by the many roads he has traveled. The June 25th performance will feature songs from his new album “Of Heart and Home”. Known for his unique story telling skills and personal, real-world lyrics, Sam’s style will touch your heart. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Seating is limited, and tickets can be purchased now at the Montello Theater. MontelloTheater.com Folk singer Bert Koelbl, originally scheduled to open Sam’s concert, has a scheduling conflict and won’t be performing on June 25.JL Presents, the promoter of this Sam Ness Listening Room Concert, has personally pledged a donation to the Montello Historic Preservation Society to help underwrite the costs for a new exhibit.
