GLOW International is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization with a holistic approach to connect existing resources with at-risk communities to improve lives and bring hope. Our Story from Founder, Maria Melgarejo:
This GLOW (Go Love Our World) idea began stirring in my heart a few years ago when I went on a mission trip, as an interpreter. What I thought was a simple outreach turned into a calling
as I witnessed first-hand the poverty of a third world country. With my ability to speak the local language I was able to understand more fully the needs of the community and the local resources that might be available. I came home with a burden to do something….but what could I do that would empower others and yet still be sustainable? In 2016, I spent two weeks on a mission trip to a small town in Northwest Honduras. I was surprised to discover that there were resources available in the community that no one knew about. Organizations were not communicating with each other and therefore, the impact on the community was limited. I asked myself, “What would happen if I worked with partners by simply connecting the dots between organizations and ministries? What does GLOW look like? Although each of us may choose to love our world differently, GLOW International will focus efforts on 4 main areas as we strive to meet authentic needs. Education Assistance
o Children living in poverty often cannot attend school due to their inability to buy uniforms and school supplies. GLOW will partner with organizations that have identified authentic needs in their community, to provide uniforms and school supplies for at-risk children. Nutrition Programs
o Families living in poverty survive on little food and suffer from inadequate nutrition. Feeding programs and dietary supplements can help provide a more balanced diet and aid in overall physical and intellectual development. GLOW will partner with local and international organizations that help meet important nutritional needs. Health/Hygiene Programs
o Access to adequate healthcare is a big challenge for people in poverty. Medical teams and hygiene training are often available to at-risk communities throughout Central America. GLOW will work together to build partnerships with organizations that can help meet vital medical needs. Spiritual Development
o Just as people need their physical, emotional, and intellectual needs met, they also need an opportunity to develop their spiritual potential. GLOW is committed to identifying community partners to provide spiritual leadership, hope, peace, and confidence in the future.
