Nothing replaces the visit.

Early in my Youth for Christ years, I avoided scheduling a visit unless I had a specific ask ready to go. Then one afternoon I sat down at a partner's kitchen table with nothing to ask for, just to say thank you. Twenty minutes in, she told me the real reason she started giving, a story a dozen newsletters never once surfaced.

An update tells a partner what your ministry did. A visit lets you see what God is still doing in them, which is the whole point of Philippians 4:17.

Early in my career, I believed that if I didn't personally close the budget gap, the ministry would fail. 😬 I was running at a hundred miles an hour and calling it faithfulness. It was really just burnout in a spiritual costume.

Three truths changed everything for me. I call it the 3x3 Biblical Foundation. It's the difference between "carrying" the weight of your ministry's need and "stewarding" it well.

Curious which one describes you right now? Take a few minutes with this week's tip. πŸ‘‡

There is a number quietly killing gifts before they ever happen, and most ministry leaders have never looked at it. πŸ“‰

It is called bounce rate, the percentage of people who land on your Giving Page and leave without doing anything at all. No click, no scroll, no gift.

You can write the most Christ honoring appeal letter of your life. None of it matters if the page a partner lands on loses them in the first three seconds.

Here are the five things that move that number the most:

βœ… Enhance your page's usability, especially on mobile
βœ… Optimize your page load speed
βœ… Provide relevant, quality content focused on the partner's impact, not just your need
βœ… Use one clear call to action
βœ… Improve your internal linking

Checking load speed and fixing a broken link is not glamorous work. But it is exactly the kind of faithful, unwatched detail that decides whether this year's appeals actually convert or quietly leak away.

Pull up your own Giving Page on your phone this week. Time how long it takes to load. Try to give. Notice every point of friction along the way.

Want the one page checklist version of these five fixes for your team? Just call or text (209) 541-5720, or send me a message.

Quick question for the ministry leaders in the room: could you explain, in one clear sentence, why someone should partner with you rather than another ministry, or not at all? πŸ€”

That question is quietly running through every partner's mind. Most of us answer it with our mission statement, but that only says what we do, not why someone should choose us.

This week's tip breaks down the four things a strong Value Proposition needs: Appeal, Exclusivity, Clarity, and Credibility. Miss any one of them, and the gift tends to stall.

Philippians 4:17 says it best. It was never about the size of the gift. It's about the fruit added to the giver's own account.

Where does your Value Proposition stall when you test it against these four? Drop a comment, I'd love to hear it. πŸ‘‡

Here's one small edit that's changed my partner communication more than almost any strategy shift I've made: give your reader something specific to do.

Early in my ministry career I mailed a prayer letter I was proud of, good stories, warm updates, clean layout. Then I waited for the phone to ring. It didn't. A mentor asked me one question: "What did you actually ask them to do?" I didn't have an answer.

This week's Weekly Tip is about the difference between telling your partners something and giving them a job, and why Philippians 4:17 should shape how we frame that ask. Read it here:

A big check gets applause once. A steady $25 a month, gift after gift, quietly builds something that lasts a lot longer.

In this week's Weekly Tip, Rick digs into the difference between a "spotlight gift" and a "sustaining partner," and why Philippians 4:17 points to the second one. Plus a simple next step for reaching out to partners who gave generously once but haven't given since.

Pull up your development dashboard right now. What's the first number you see?

For most of the shops I work with, it's total dollars raised. Good number, but it's not the one that tells you whether next year holds up.

In this week's Weekly Tip I share a story from my 31 years at Youth for Christ, the year we hit our revenue goal by Thanksgiving and felt like heroes, only to learn later that a third of that year's partners never gave again.

There's a difference between a "gift metric" and a "fruit metric." Most dashboards only track the first. Here's how to start tracking the second:

Weekly Tip: July 13, 2026

When is the last time you called a partner just to see how they're doing, with nothing attached to an ask?

Three calls worth putting on your calendar this week, none of them mention money: the thank you call, the how are you call, and the you crossed my mind call.

You already have this tool. It's been sitting next to your keyboard the whole time.

Weekly Tip: July 6, 2026

Are you building a ministry that spikes, or one that compounds?

Hype development chases a moment. Healthy development chases a relationship, one that's more connected to your mission in December than it was in June.

You won't burn out doing the slow, faithful thing. You'll burn out doing the other one.

Weekly Tip β€” June 29, 2026

Future partners rarely appear out of nowhere. Most have been quietly paying attention for a while.

Before someone gives financially, they often give attention first.

They're following your social media. Reading your emails. Hearing about you from friends. Watching your consistency. Evaluating your credibility.

Your job? Faithfully guide that journey β€” even when you don't have a name yet.
