During the program, youth will will participate in hands-on activities, explore fascinating facts about different creepy-crawlies, and learn how insects keep our local ecosystem healthy. We will also get a jump start on the upcoming spring season by crafting DIY bee houses for participants to take home. A couple of weeks ago, a few members of our 4-H Teen County Council teamed up with additional high school leaders from across Davie County to host a 2-day STEM Camp for 22 kids ages 6 to 10. Our young scientists spent the camp getting their hands dirty with erupting volcanos, fizzy lava lamps, elephant toothpaste, engineered catapults, balloon-powered cars, custom milk bioplastics, and more!

Thanks to the Davie Community Foundation, this camp was free for every participant. Our teen leaders worked hard to source the funding, plan all the activities, and run the camp from start to finish.

Huge thanks to Mr. King from North Davie for all his help, and to Mrs. Sapp and the team at Cognition Davie for hosting us in their space! We’re so proud of these teen leaders for stepping up, giving back, and inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. Great job, everyone! 🍀

Our young gardeners explored the wonderful world of plants through fun, hands-on activities led by Davie County Master Gardener volunteers and our Horticulture Agent, Susan!

Participants made seed balls, germination necklaces, and sun catchers; completed a nature scavenger hunt; conducted plant experiments; potted plants to take home; and painted with natural plant dyes.
