The Lions motto is “We Serve” and our members are energetically researching and planning ways to provide specific services to those Santa Rosa residents who can benefit from the generosity of the volunteer organization. While the Lions Club has several community projects in the works, our main focus is vision care for those in need. The Lions provide or assist in the costs related to eye exams, eyeglasses and eye surgeries for those who apply and qualify for the service(s). The Lions depend on monetary donations and fundraisers to bankroll these ongoing projects. Additionally, the Lions collect approximately 2500 old and no-longer-used prescription eyeglasses so that they can gift them to needy persons in their international eyeglasses program. Anyone interested in donating their old eyeglasses can do so by dropping them in the Lions Club Donation Box. Locations and links are listed below. Seniors who qualify for eye examines and surgery after application approval are referred to health professionals also. Special thanks to the health professionals who assist in this process. There is no cost to the children families or the seniors. North Santa Rosa Lions Club absolves the cost . We are looking to expand our membership by including other civic-minded volunteers interested in making a difference by serving the Santa Rosa community. Make a Donation

Kids Sight Program : Amblyopia in Children
Newborn infants are able to see, but as they use their eyes during the first months of life, their vision improves. During early childhood years, their visual system changes quickly and their sight continues to develop. In order to have normal vision, it is important that both eyes develop equal vision. If a child has amblyopia and cannot use his or her eyes normally, vision does not develop properly and may even decrease. After the first nine years of life, the visual system is normally fully developed and usually cannot be changed. If amblyopia treatment is not begun as early as possible, several problems can develop that can seriously affect vision from childhood into adulthood:
• the amblyopic eye may develop a serious and permanent visual defect;
• depth perception (seeing in three dimensions) may be lost, because good vision in both eyes is needed;
• if the stronger eye becomes diseased or injured, it can mean a lifetime of poor vision. People with amblyopia in one eye are more than twice as likely to lose vision in the healthy eye from trauma. If the vision in one eye should be lost later in life from an accident or illness, it is essential that the other eye have normal vision. Another important reason to make sure amblyopia is detected and treated as early as possible in childhood: people who have good vision in only one eye may find they are limited in the kinds of jobs they can perform. North Santa Rosa Lions Club is committed to helping the community of Santa Rosa County. Our program "Sight for Kids" is helping kids see the world around them with a better view. We help these kids either with glasses or surgery. July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013, we had 57 eye examine sessions in Santa Rosa County, Out of 1106 children: 1052 (95.12%) passed; 54 (4.88%) referred to health professionals and 0 (0%) unreadable. We are very proud of our program. North Santa Rosa Lions Club Disaster Relief Project
