Animal welfare isn’t just a shelter problem.

It isn’t just a rescue problem.

It’s a community problem — and it takes a community to help solve it. 🐾

One of the biggest ways ordinary people can make a difference for community animals?

FOSTER

🐾 You don’t have to adopt forever.

🐾 You don’t have to run a rescue.

🐾 You don’t have to save them all.

Sometimes you just need to make room for one.

🏠 A spare room.

🧺 A laundry room.

🛋️ A corner of your home.

❤️ A safe place to land for a little while.

When you foster through a rescue or shelter, they often provide the animal’s vet care and support — and you provide the temporary home, love, and safety.

That temporary space can mean the difference between an animal staying on the street, sitting in an overcrowded shelter, or getting the chance to become someone’s beloved pet.

More fosters = more lives saved.

If we want fewer animals suffering in our communities, then community involvement has to be part of the solution.

URGENT HELP NEEDED IN ARIZONA

Update- euthanized- Run free Koi 🙏
Please share and help-
I’m trying so hard to hold onto hope, but I am losing my mind in here. I’ve been locked inside this shelter for over 2 whole months - 71 days, to be exact.

⏰ DEADLINE: OCTOBER 5

I came in back in July with my best friend, Creamsicle. We were found wandering together, relying on each other for everything. But on August 1st, Creamsicle was adopted. I watched my friend walk out those shelter doors to a brand new life, and I was left sitting behind the bars alone.

Watching my buddy leave while I stayed behind completely broke my heart, and being stuck in a cage for over two months ever since has fried my nervous system.

When you get me out to the play yard away from the echoing cages, my real soul shines right through. I am a fun, goofy, toy-loving boy! I go crazy for tennis balls and ropes, playing fetch with the biggest, happiest smile on my face and running zoomies in the grass. I know how to sit, I lean right into you for pets, and I take treats like a total gentleman. Out in the open air, I am a affectionate, sweet boy who just wants a human partner to love.

The hard part is that 71 days in a cage have turned me into a dog drowning in shelter stress. Behind bars, I bark out of sheer frustration and demand attention because I am so desperate to get out. I’m also touch-sensitive when I am over-aroused, flinching or backing away if hands move too fast around my head.

The public cannot adopt me directly right now. I need an approved New Hope rescue partner and an experienced Arizona foster home - a quiet place with someone who understands high-energy dogs, can give me structured leash guidance, and will let me decompress so I can finally leave my cage stress behind.

Koi
Brown and White American Pit Mix
Age and Weight: 2 Years, 2 Months Old | 60.4 lbs • S*x: Neutered Male

🆘 HOW TO FOSTER KOI:
If you live in ARIZONA and can offer an experienced home to a sweet, ball-obsessed boy who has been waiting over two months for his turn, please apply immediately at Azfosters.com

🚨 ANIMAL ABUSE ISN’T JUST HITTING AN ANIMAL.

🚨 NEGLECT IS ABUSE.

🚨 ABANDONMENT IS ABUSE.

🚨 And in Florida, these can be CRIMES.

Florida law makes it illegal to deprive an animal of necessary food or shelter, treat an animal cruelly or inhumanely, or allow an animal in your care to suffer excessive or repeated unnecessary pain.

In serious cases, animal cruelty can rise to a THIRD-DEGREE FELONY.

🚨 Florida law is equally clear about abandonment.

🐾 Leaving an animal on a road, street or other public place without arranging for its care, food, protection and shelter can be a crime.

🐾 Abandoning an animal where it may suffer injury or malnutrition can be a crime.

🐾 Leaving a sick, injured or infirm animal to die can be a crime.

🐾 Keeping an animal confined without sufficient food, water, exercise or fresh air can also violate Florida law.

Under Florida Statute §828.13, these offenses can be FIRST-DEGREE MISDEMEANORS, with fines of up to $5,000.

And here is the part people need to understand:

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PUT YOUR HANDS ON AN ANIMAL TO CAUSE SUFFERING.

💔 NEGLECT IS SUFFERING.

🚗 ABANDONMENT IS SUFFERING.

🥣 WITHHOLDING BASIC CARE IS SUFFERING.

🏚️ LEAVING AN ANIMAL WITHOUT PROPER SHELTER IS SUFFERING.

🩺 IGNORING AN ANIMAL’S SERIOUS NEEDS IS SUFFERING.

When you take responsibility for an animal, you don’t get to simply walk away when that responsibility becomes inconvenient.

🚨 They depend on you.

They cannot feed themselves.
They cannot arrange veterinary care.
They cannot explain to someone why you left them on the side of the road.

🚨 YOU CHOSE THEM.

Florida law says you have responsibilities once you do.

⚠️ ABUSE. NEGLECT. ABANDONMENT.

These aren’t simply bad choices.

THEY CAN BE CRIMES.

🐾 ACCOUNTABILITY: SELLING OR BUYING PUPPIES IN FLORIDA?

🐾🐾🤷‍♀️KNOW WHAT THE LAW REQUIRES.

Breeding a litter and putting puppies up for sale isn’t supposed to be as simple as taking a picture, posting a price and collecting money.

👉 Florida law places health requirements on dogs being offered for sale within the state.

Under Florida Statute §828.29, before a dog is offered for sale, required vaccinations and deworming must be administered by or under the direction of a properly licensed and accredited veterinarian, and an Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection must be issued.

That means buyers should be asking:

🩺 WHERE IS THE VETERINARY HEALTH CERTIFICATE?
A dog covered by the statute must have a current Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection while being offered for sale. A copy must be provided to the buyer at the time of sale.

💉 WHAT VACCINES HAS THE PUPPY RECEIVED?
The statute lists required protection including distemper, leptospirosis, Bordetella, parainfluenza, hepatitis and parvovirus, with rabies required when age appropriate.

🪱 HAS THE PUPPY BEEN PROPERLY DEWORMED AND TESTED?
The veterinary examination includes f***l testing for internal parasites, and treatment or broad-spectrum deworming is required as provided by the statute.

📋 WHAT DOES THE HEALTH CERTIFICATE ACTUALLY SAY?
The certificate includes identifying information about the animal, its health record, vaccines and deworming medications, dates administered and information identifying the seller and veterinarian.

📅 WHEN WAS THE PUPPY EXAMINED?
The veterinary examination must occur no more than 30 days before the sale.

🚫 HOW OLD IS THE PUPPY?
Florida law says a person may not offer a dog or cat for sale in Florida if the animal is younger than 8 weeks old.

And for breeders/sellers who meet Florida’s legal definition of a pet dealer, there are additional requirements involving medical-record disclosures, written consumer notices, health guarantees and remedies when an animal is later determined to have been unfit for purchase.

So when you see puppies advertised for sale, ASK QUESTIONS.

✅ Ask for the veterinary certificate.
✅ Ask for vaccination and deworming records.
✅ Ask when the veterinarian examined the puppy.
✅ Ask how old the puppy is.
✅ Ask who the veterinarian is.

And sellers should expect those questions.

If you are making money creating animals, accountability begins BEFORE the puppy ever leaves your property.

Breeding is not simply producing puppies.

It is accepting responsibility for how they enter our community.
