Despite our public hearing, letters, and comments all asking otherwise, the Utah Division of Air Quality has issued an approval order for Granite Construction to operate a mining and aggregate operation in Parley's Canyon. Although this doesn't green light the project, it is a troubling step toward full mining operation that will impact all of those who live in or near the canyon. Obviously our overwhelming opposition to the issuance of said permit at the public hearing held earlier this year fell on deaf ears. 😞

Their issuance says nothing about monitoring air quality in or near the canyon. The document has no dispersion modeling, no meteorological data, no discussion of canyon winds, no background air quality data, no downwind receptors, and no comparison to the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. The cover letter says comments were received and considered, but no response to comments is attached.

Join us for the 5th Annual Canyon Rim Art Day on October 17, 2026, from 2–4 PM at 3150 South 2900 East. It's free, family-friendly, and a great chance to see the incredible artistic talent right here in our own neighborhood — everything from oil painting and photography to woodwork, knitting, and more. Refreshments will be served, so come linger and chat with your neighbors!

Art Day is looking for artists of every kind: professionals, hobbyists, and anyone with an artistic itch — including kids! Past exhibits have featured oil and watercolor painting, arts & crafts, pop art, anime, cross stitch, culinary arts, needlework, furniture, knitting, photography, and woodwork. Whatever you make, there's a place for it here.

We even have a Kids Corner — a dedicated space for our youngest artists to show off their work. If you know a young creator, we'd love to have them apply too.

🏓 Pickleball Night is back!

Join us Wednesday, August 13 from 7–8:30 PM at 3150 South 2900 East in Millcreek for a fun night of pickleball — all ages and skill levels welcome, from first-timers to seasoned players. Bring a paddle if you've got one (or just bring yourself!) and come play, meet neighbors, and enjoy the evening.

🎒 VOLUNTEER IMPACT: Supporting Youth in Foster Care 🎒

At Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service, our community came together with to make a real difference for youth and families in the foster care system.

Volunteers assembled:
📚 100 backpacks filled with school supplies for youth in foster care and adoptive families
🧴 200 skincare packages for teenagers in foster care

These items will support kids and families throughout the entire year, giving them tools for the classroom and small everyday comforts that make a big difference.

Thank you to Raise the Future for partnering with us and trusting our volunteers to help build these kits with care. Events like this only work because of incredible partners like you! 💛

🇺🇸 VOLUNTEER IMPACT: Feeding Our Veterans 🇺🇸

In under an hour at Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service, our incredible volunteers assembled over 100 food bags for veterans facing food insecurity — partnering with the VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System.

Each reusable canvas tote (printed with the National Hunger Hotline) was packed with:
🥫 Protein (chili, tuna, chicken, protein sticks)
🍎 Fruit cups
💧 Water & sports drinks
🍫 Granola & energy bars, snack packs
🍜 Cup of noodles + cutlery

But the impact didn't stop at the assembly line. Volunteers connected directly with VA reps to learn how the community can support homeless and food-insecure veterans year-round, including volunteer opportunities at VA and resources for veterans to access healthcare and benefits.

Where do these bags go? Straight to VA Salt Lake City's Food Pantry and homeless Veteran program — distributed by social workers to veterans in the community and to those who visit the pantry directly.

One hour of service. A hundred bags of hope for those who served us. 💙

🎉 THANK YOU, Canyon Rim!

Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service was nothing short of amazing. Hundreds of volunteers showed up and gave their time, sweat, and hearts to tackle hundreds of tasks across more than 25 local nonprofits — from 2nd grade literacy kits to supplies for refugees to painting a 70' mural and everything in between.

📚 A huge thank you to for donating 600 books to Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service!

These books will help preschool kids throughout Utah build a love of reading early. Donations like this are what make a day like July 18 possible.

📚 Project #21: Granite School District Educational Kits

Our most involved project of the day: volunteers will assemble 4,000 literacy and math kits for 2nd-grade students across Granite School District. In past years, these kits have been linked to a seven percent increase in literacy scores among the students who received them.
