Hello, Millbury Historical Society Facebook Readers,

We're turning to those of you who may have LONG memories and OLD photo albums.

We've had a request from reader Anthony Dupuis of New York state, who is looking for some photos of his wife, Linda Wilisch, from her childhood.

You see, fifty years ago, in 1976, the Town of Millbury celebrated our nation's Bicentennial with a parade, and Linda was atop a float with Mike Kniskern.

The float was of a little school house.

Think anyone out there has pictures of that fifty-year old float? Even the Society has scant numbers, but pictured here is one of the ones we do have.

Thank you for your consideration!

Hi, Everybody,

We've has ANOTHER query from a reader about when, in Millbury, kindergarten became full-day?

Anyone out there know?

Below is a general answer, but how about Millbury?

Thanks!

Full-day kindergarten has evolved from a rarity to the norm in Massachusetts public schools over the past years, reflecting what advocates say is mounting evidence that the extra time can be crucial to a child’s development.

In 2000, less than a third of kindergartners attended full-day programs, according to the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This year (2012), a vast majority, or 83 percent of Bay State kindergarten students, are enrolled in full-day classrooms.

In part, the state has helped drive this transformation. Since 2000, the state has offered grants to help districts defray the added cost of full-day kindergarten classrooms.

1963 – DON BRIDDON was the star this week in Millbury Little League action, when he poled two homers in a Savings Bank win over Local 3426, and struck out 14 batters and hit a grand-slam in a 6-0 shutout of Local 232.

1964 – TIM ERICKSON of Millbury finished 2nd in the District III, one mile high school race.

1965 – Senior LARRY SALEM closed out one of the finest baseball careers in Millbury High history, as he batted .433 in his final year.

1976 – Honored by the Millbury Athletic Association as MVP’s of their spring high school teams were: MARCIA GILBERT, softball; JOHN LACOUTURE, golf; KEVIN BOUCHER, boys track; SCOTT GRIFFIN, baseball.

1980 – The hitting and fielding of shortstop HARRY GRIFFIN, highlighted Millbury’s 4-0 victory over North Middlesex High, in a semi-final District III, Division 2 game at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

1988 – Millbury’s 9th hitter, TIM CLUETT, drove in four runs to lead the Woolies over Hudson Catholic High, 18-4, in a District E, Division 3 semi-final game at Holy Cross.

2001 Yearbook

We can't caption these cheerful students as THEY didn't caption a LOT of this 2001 yearbook from twenty-five years ago!

Perhaps they, or their classmates, can help us identify them!
