When you are strong, don't blame the weak for their weakness.
When you see clearly, don't blame the deceived for being deceived.
When you are healthy, don't blame the unhealthy for their sickness.
When you are protected, don't blame the victims for their victimization.
When you have power and authority, don't blame the abused for putting up with abuse.
When you have money, don't blame the poor for their poverty.
When you have a loving family, don't blame the lonely for being alone.
When all you've ever known is freedom, don't flame the addicted for their addition or the bound for their bo***ge.
It's easy to feel superior when you don't carry any scars.
You never had to feel the depth of deep wounds.
You never felt overpowered and manipulated.
You never felt threatened or afraid.
You never felt beaten down and defeated.
You never believed a lie from someone you trusted.
You never were isolated or alone.
You have never been verbally, physically, or sexually abused.
You have never been mistreated or overextended.
You have never been poor and desperate.
You have never been addicted.
You have never known bo***ge, chains.
You have never struggled with mental or emotional disorders.
You have never been treated as inferior because of your race, age, or gender.
Jesus was perfect in every way. Still, He had compassion and understanding on those who fell in a fallen world.
He helped strengthen the weak.
He helped reveal truth to the deceived.
He helped heal the sick.
He rescued the abused.
He brought freedom to captives.
Do you want to be like Jesus?
I think of Job. He had everything... until he didn't. All flesh is like a breath, a v***r, fragile and vulnerable. Our trust is in God to hold us in place, to keep us in His hands.
Why does God use a person with a testimony? Because someone with a testimony can have empathy and compassion while having the understanding on what it takes to rise up. A person with a testimony can spot a predator or a wrong decision. A person with a testimony has the opportunity to forgive much and love much.
Sometimes the testimony is someone who used to be in the place of the abuser. Maybe the one who overpowered others was once a victim of abuse himself or herself. Maybe the one with a testimony is the one who was trying to numb a pain or find his/her value or worth. Maybe the abuser was under an indescribable pressure, felt threatened, or endured sharp and repetitive criticism. It's not an excuse, but it's a reason.
Jesus can also used the person who has always been in protection because they walk in the blessings of God, yet have learned the ways of God.
We also want to say:
Not every predator is innocent. Some are greedy and entitled. Some are evil and have a taste for blood, literal or figurative. Some are perverse, twisted, and enjoy distorting others.
Not every victim is innocent. Some are manipulative, willing to deal to get their way. Some victims are lazy, looking for others to do the hard work. Some victims are vindictive, looking to ensnare those considered powerful or privileged in order to take them down or hold their actions for some kind of financial gain or mental/emotional blackmail.
Whatever the case... Jesus came to die for a messy world. Not only did He come to offer redemption; but He also came to offer us a new identity, a new purpose, and a life of blessing. He came to offer us new authority, new power, new resources. He came to offer us a testimony and a way for us to glorify Him, to bless Him, to love Him back.
