Now that's a departure from Lunken Airport worth cheering. After a broken wing and months of rehab this young bald eagle is back where he belongs. Of course, that's under open skies. Mew Dash meal deliveries are over for this guy. Watch out fish‼️ 🐟

Thanks to the airport workers who made the call to us, our rehab volunteers who answered it, and the ICU staffers who made this second chance possible. And thank you LOCAL 12, WKRC-TV for sharing the moment. Let's hear some and celebrate the hard work for this wild homecoming. ❤️

Bird banding can produce magical results.
A release is a milestone, but it isn’t the whole story. Banding gives us a chance to learn what happens next. RAPTOR’s records, for example, describe a Great Horned Owl banded as an adult in 1997 and recovered in 2025—at least 29 years old. That’s quite a sequel!

One important distinction: a standard metal band is an ID, not a GPS tracker. Researchers learn from it when someone encounters the bird again and reports its number; it doesn’t broadcast the bird’s location.

REHAB🦉CONSERVATION EDUCATION🦉OPEN HOUSE🦉ACCESS HOUR

At RAPTOR Inc., “that’s a wrap” means it’s time to unwrap - the bird’s talons, that is, which we keep snugly swaddled during treatment to protect our volunteers.

Many of our volunteers have served for years, even decades. Thank you, one and all. ❤️



At RAPTOR Inc., lessons from our rehab patients take flight as memorable, hands-on science for neighbors across Greater Cincinnati. We bring conservation to life. And you can arrange a little wild wonder for your gathering! Contact us to book a RAPTOR program for your school, retirement center, scout meeting, birthday party, garden club, or next community event.

Prefer to visit our perch? Join us for an open house on the last Sunday of each month, March through November. The next open house is a Halloween extravaganza from 1 PM to 4 PM on October 25.

Of course, if you prefer a quieter, calmer way to meet our Education Ambassadors before the crowd swoops in at the October open house, you can register to attend the Access Hour from noon to 1 PM. Pre-registration is required for the Access Hour, and capacity is limited.

The Access Hour is designed for guests who need a low-sensory or more relaxed environment to enjoy the raptor experience.
