π Weβre so proud of our incredible Program Manager, Amanda Di Perna, for speaking at the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation 2026 Public Hearing. This public hearing is where Miami-Dadeβs state legislators hear directly from community members and organizations ahead of the legislative session. π£οΈποΈ
Amanda shared what our volunteers see every week: hundreds of pounds of debris pulled from our waterways and neighborhoods, with the overwhelming majority made up of single-use plastic. Cleanups are important, but after more than a decade of hosting them, the amount of plastic we collect has not gone down. We need solutions that stop plastic pollution before it reaches our ocean. ππ
Amanda urged local leaders to support SB 240 and HB 575 (Auxiliary Containers), legislation that would protect existing local ordinances, reduce high-pollution items in Florida State Parks, and create a statewide Marine Debris Reduction Plan and a uniform ordinance local governments can adopt. π
Thank you, Amanda, for being a powerful voice for our waters, our community, and a zero-waste future. ππ
